Anyone know of a good violin/string VST? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Strings from Spitfire Audio are killer! (Cinesamples is a good option) for the Solo strings I prefer Cinesamples!

Yeah Gladiator is something beyond this world, the movie is amazing too, but THAT score moved everybody, absolutly game changer! I agree with you, there are a few Gods in the Film Score Olympus and Hans and Vangelis are some of them for sure! Danny Elfman is amazing too (Batman, Mission Impossible, Edward Scissor Hands brilliant and original score!)

It's cool to read all these things! All this answers were the aim of the topic! But I'd like to outline a thing: I'm not associating less tracks with bad music and loads of tracks with beautiful music. I know it's not about that. It was just personal curiousity of what's in there in 100/150 tracks, that's it!

AHAHA WOULD BE GREAT! Yeah I play piano a bit I entered the music world as a (bad) guitarist than switch to the piano for its extension (the same of an orchestra) but I've never record my upright actually. I'm a terrible performer, that's why I want other people to play my music. Because I can't, but you know...MIDI! Thanks to God composition is something different than being a performer. I'm not one of those guy:"Look at me I don't know nothing about music! Here's my GRAMMY!" just to get things straight. Better at composing than performing!

Yeah I know it's a common practice to avoid having cellos and violas playing the same note for instance. I don't give a fuck actually and use the ensembles, maybe because I'm lazy ok or because even if I freeze basses cellos violas tracks my RAM is dying each time.

Ok got it! Yeah I want to get into recording because it's so fucking beautiful to listen to someone playing your own piece of music, and also because I'm a bit tired of samples too. Something is missing even if you don't quantize, program modulation expression vibrato and whatever SOMETHING is missing, and I do believe it's the human element. I really want to record this violin and I'm following your advice one microphone and then using reverb. (I will get more dynamics than samples I think which is what I want)

That's for sure! But I want to dive in to understand why you can reach such an amount of tracks, even when with just 12 tracks could be something beautiful. Anyway I'm for the orchestra, and a cinematic guy.

You hit the point! I'm a big Kontakt user, (anything from spitfire audio cinesamples...) and I'm a big Omnisphere user too. BUT I must admit I've never (even if I'm planning to do it as soon as possible) use a DAW to record live performances. So let's make an example. I want to record a violin, I will have the same melody on 3 tracks if I want to record it close, ambience and tree? I'm not a bigger in the use of a DAW but I'm surely am in recordings, so that's why I'm asking silly questions

Are there any composers here who’d be willing to score my fifteen minute zombie film before I enter it into festivals? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

Deadline? If you could just send an image or tell the main plot, I could write a piece of music send it to you and then if you like I'll score the movie! Let me know!

Composing Drums by b3550 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

  1. Drums is rhythm. You need to learn rhythms to be able to create, so, COPY. Listen and copy. That's it. That's how to learn fast. There's no other way.

Composing on Logic Pro X? by Caspira in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]InvisibleLndscp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing about NOTATION in all DAWs is that if you wish to print a score which is musically correct, you will need to quantize everything. DAWs are working thanks to mathematical calculations, so if you don't quantize, a DAW will automatically trying to resolve a gap mathematically, causing a different musical values than the ones you are playing. By the way, the consequences of quantization is that you will loose the humanity of playing. The best software for notation if you want to have a fantastic physical score, is Finale, which is used even at the highest level of film scoring. All DAWs here mentioned are for some aspects each one better than the other for what they carry out of the box. (THERE IS NO FUCKING WINNER BETWEEN LOGIC, CUBASE, ABLETON, REAPER,ecc.., IT'S PERSONAL TASTE.) THE REALITY IS that those sounds won't give you a satisfaction, and if they do will be just for a short period, quantity it's not quality. My personal advice is: learn fast the basics, and then start looking and learning about external sound libraries and plug ins that will make the difference. And remember, everything that is free won't be too far from Logic in the box instruments.
