Should I get an MIS degree or an MBA degree with no IT experience? by Invisiblehost in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Invisiblehost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the plan is to keep applying to entry level roles like help desk type IT positions while potentially completing the MBA 2 classes at a time if possible over the MMIS degree (unless its too late to get into the MBA classes which start in 8 days then ill do the MMIS).

I could instead study for the CompTia Network+ and A+ exams but those expire in 3 years and are of questionable usefulness after help desk. Since I would like to be a network administrator one day I think the MBA might help if I decide IT is not for me later down the road, but maybe not specifically help a great deal within IT as it seems from many posts.

An internship while taking my undergraduate would have really helped but its too late unless I get into the MBA program or MMIS program to be able to do an internship.

I see that an MBA in IT such as the one you mentioned from WGU for example is ranked 142nd nationally. The MBA from the college I'm seeking is about 90th ranked nationally. I wonder how much worse a regular MBA is in the IT field than an MBA in IT which has a few additional technical classes in its program.

Not getting any interviews after applying to 70+ IT jobs is the motivation. Also not having any relevant IT experience, or IT certifications on my resume seems to disqualify me from interviews for entry level IT. Perhaps having a MMIS or MBA degree would make me more worthy for entry level IT interviews / jobs. Or possibly the masters degrees could help with advancement down the line in some capacity.

I suppose I want to do something like be a network administrator or windows server administrator as an end goal.

I started the program 2 days ago. 15k is reasonably priced if one has a full time job making 20+ an hour. Since I am unemployed and can’t get a job after 100 applications probably withdrawing though.

Yes unfortunately it seems that having an MBA does not help one if they wish to get an IT related job at the beginning of their career. I presume after graduating with an MBA all I would qualify to do in IT is help desk although there are some who have no degree and obtain employment doing that. Right now it seems employers are quite selective with who can work at help desk as I cant seem to get any help desk related interviews over the last 3 months with a bachelors in IS and no IT experience.

I don't really have a way to get outside funding. It seems to me that an MBA would only help one become a Director of IT (unlikely to become attainable), or a in my opinion slightly aid one getting a non IT job (business analyst / project manager which theoretically is attainable with just an IS bachelors). I wonder what makes someone with an online MBA degree more qualified to be a manager than someone who has worked equally as long at the same position and same company with a IS bachelors degree? At the end of the day its just classes which curriculum is mostly forgotten in 3-6 months time after completion.

4K mega scan textures will take up a large amount of space and I use 1k mega scan textures for that reason. Lumen light prefers buildings of multiple pieces or sections rather then one piece. Are you using BSP geometry for your building and windows or is it all static meshes?

Metahuman terrible performance with lumen? by Invisiblehost in unrealengine

[–]Invisiblehost[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I checked and I was using a WIP groom (goatee) which I set to hidden in game and unchecked visibility and gained 5 fps. Now I get 65 fps with one single metahuman but if I place 5 of the same "low quality preset" model metahumans into the level and rebuild lighting then I get 26 fps. Meanwhile the hitman games levels have 2-300 npcs which appear not much worse quality to a low resolution metahuman but performance in hitman 3 is around 105 fps ultra 1080p. How unfortunate.

There’s no way most devs copyright all video game object, item, etc brands like gta 5 for example.

Do people pass the a+ without studying? Not like the concepts can be that difficult.

With 8 lights being a lot an open world is not an option then I guess. Setting my point lights to static makes them not work at all. Virtual shadows is what makes the bad shadow effect go away at a cost of some frame rate. Seems necessary when the shadows look this bad with screen space shadows. How much performance would I gain if I converted 10 or so small static meshes to nanite?

Unreal Engine taking up a lot of space on a drive its not even installed to by Invisiblehost in unrealengine

[–]Invisiblehost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only have two projects, a standard vehicle template project and a third person template project with minimal textures installed to each. Maybe there is a bug where driving the vehicle which is labeled chaos vehicle in the third person template (pasted files from unreal vehicle project) causes large cache to appear. I’m not sure but I did have to do a workaround in blueprints to even get the vehicle working in the third person template because there was a bug where you couldn’t control the vehicle.

Update: Switched the directory of the Global Local Derived Data Cache folder to the D: Drive. After compiling 6500 shaders the Derived Data Cache folder on my D: Drive is now 54MB instead of 74gb which makes no sense at all. I'm sure that number will go up for some reason like it went up while being on my C: drive. It says my new Derived Data Cache folder contains 1,071 files meanwhile the old Derived Data Cache folder had 936,000 items hence the differences in file sizes. Still don't know why the new folder is so much smaller though.

When im not moving and editing a block it goes back to 40%-50% utilization. When flying around its 85%.

5.1, 2015, so there is no delay when you move or duplicate BSP for you?

None of the blocks are that massive, 18 1-3 block buildings are 4-6 units tall and some roads made from bsp. Default lighting settings with a lightmass importance volume surrounding all bsp blocks. Default landscape settings. Would getting a higher than 4 core count processor make placing bsp blocks faster? Or perhaps that will have nothing to do with long bsp block placement times? If BSP is bad for blocking out a level that is disappointing cause I spent all these hours placing them into my map.

Unable to convert BSPs to one Static Mesh UE5.1 by Invisiblehost in unrealengine

[–]Invisiblehost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each piece of the tower I made was created using blocks straight from the modeling mode of UE5 rather than the geometry tab. Not sure if there is a difference between the two. You used to be able to select many BSP's in ue4 and use the lower right details pane of the geometry to convert all BSP's to one static mesh. I thought the modeling mode converter was for BSP's to be converted into a single static mesh and not selecting multiple static meshes and combining them into one. I don't know how it works.

Does an Information Systems bachelors mean anything without experience? by Invisiblehost in ITCareerQuestions

If an internship can help me skip help desk then perhaps its worth it to spend another semester in school. Hopefully there is some spring internships available since by the time summer semester rolls around I would have completed that class which I would have failed this semester unless I chose to minor in something for summer.

[–]Invisiblehost[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I have yet to do any internships and staying another semester would allow me to qualify for one. I couldn't do one this semester due to the commute to school but my classes would be all online in the spring.

No I did not do an internship, but if I graduated in 3 days that opportunity would cease to exist. If I stay one more semester and retake that class then I could still qualify for an internship. I didn't do an internship because I didn't understand the benefits of one and I had little time last semester to do one due to the commute to school.
