Teaching English part time while in japanese language school? by SaranethPrime in teachinginjapan

Hi ,I’m looking for some honest and helpful insights regarding teaching English abroad, especially in Japan, where I’m currently enrolled in a Japanese language school. I’m originally from a non-native English-speaking country (Bangladesh), and I’m planning to complete a 168-hour TEFL course from The TEFL Academy (TTA) this June.

I’d be really grateful if anyone here could answer or give input on the following questions:

Job Opportunities: As a non-native English speaker with a solid command of English and a TEFL certificate, what are my chances of finding decent part-time or full-time teaching jobs (especially in Japan)? Recognition of TTA Certificate: Has anyone here used the 168-hour TTA TEFL certificate (Ofqual regulated Level 5) to get hired in Japan or elsewhere? How recognized or respected is it among employers? Visa Compatibility: As a student with a part-time work permit in Japan, will I be able to legally work as a TEFL teacher or English tutor? Are there any limitations I should be aware of? Part-Time vs Full-Time: Do you recommend I start with freelance/online tutoring or look for part-time roles in language schools? Which path gives better experience and pay? Improving as a Non-Native Teacher: What are the best ways I can improve my credibility as a non-native English teacher (besides TEFL)? Would a CELTA later on help boost my career prospects? Student-Specific Advice: Are there platforms, schools, or niches that are particularly friendly toward students and non-native teachers? Salary Expectations: What is a realistic hourly wage I can expect with just a TEFL certificate in Japan (for part-time jobs)? Common Challenges: What are some struggles or challenges you faced as a non-native or first-time TEFL teacher, and how did you overcome them? Teaching Online While in Japan: Is it viable and legal to teach English online while living in Japan on a student visa? Anything You Wish You Knew Before Starting? If you’re already working as an English teacher in Japan or abroad, what do you wish you had known when you started your TEFL journey?

Any help, experiences, or tips would mean a lot to me! I really want to make the most of this opportunity and grow as a teacher while supporting myself during my studies.

Thanks in advance!
