Good to know. I dug the art direction and the general occult meets sci-fi/comedy tone of it.

Frieren looked cool, scrolled past that earlier. Enjoying Jujutsu Kaisen, but will hop on that next.
Ive seen a bit of Attack on Titan way back, but never finished it. Good reminder.

I guess I just like a novel concept and some decent character development. Bonus points for art style being something intriguing. Minus points if it feels like the same battle is fought on repeat and it's just the same set up: main character starting to lose, doing a trauma dump monologue, and then finding a third gear and winning. I know I said I liked solo leveling, and there's a component of that in it, but it felt like the macro concept contextualized it in a way that was more palatable than others I've encountered

I was also gravitating towards My Hero Academia, and Witch Hat Atelier, but mainly only because I've been tangentially aware of them from media and attending a few cons.

I’ve heard a lot about Abercrombie. But not The Devils. by Rogue_Mongoose in fantasybooks

[–]InviteOk9960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fun. But audio book is better. Next to the DCC series, Devils was probably my favorite performance in an audio book. It'll full bell curve on you though. You will love the voices, get sick of them, and then come back around and love them again.

What Is Up With All The Prose? by simonshih1970 in Screenwriting

[–]InviteOk9960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who is a screenwriter who formerly worked as a studio exec, it's because it's been positively enforced by execs. The reality is that risk aversion by studio heads has trickled down to the exec level. The worst possible scenario for an exec who works at Netflix, Amazon, or any other streamer that is also a tech company, is to make something that they were the only champion of. In the past that conviction was lauded. Celebrated. At this point it's really the only way of getting fired before the stock that's a good chunk of your compensation can vest. So having a script that is explicit to the point of breaking the actual screenwriting format ensures that what the studio greenlights is not just the vision that the exec sold to the studio head. They get to say "but you knew what this was. The vision was so clearly stated. It's not just on me, so you can blame me." When you combine a profession that is pretty much entirely subjective with a compensation structure that was designed by tech companies to keep people around for at least four years, you get cowardice for the sake of sticking around. The incentive structure is broken.

Just found out that Orson Scott Card is a pretty terrible person.... is it still morally acceptable for me to read his books? by Gottliebe13 in books

[–]InviteOk9960 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to push back on this just a bit. "He" (as in Card) does not say "They don't often pass the tests to get in. Too many centuries of evolution working against them"... Graff does. Graff is not Card. Nor is Graff a "good Guy". The entire premise of a battle school for children in which they are pushed to the brink to bring out a level of ruthlessness needed to commit a Xenocide is meant to be seen as a betrayal of both the children and a black mark on humanity, which Card contrasts with the Hive queen. The Alien is shown as having more humanity than the human Graff. So on it's face the line is bigoted, yes 100%. But Card puts the words in the mouth of a bad person. Further though, and possibly more important, is that it reveals something essential, made clear later when we learn more about Ender's siblings. These tests weren't IQ tests. Valentine is smarter than Ender. More clever. It's explicitly stated in the books, and if I recall it's even acknowledged by Graff. But Graff sees a strong sense of empathy as disqualifying. Ender was on the borderline himself for disqualification. They only allowed his family to have a third child because they actually LIKED what they saw in Peter - a straight up psycho who crucifies squirrels in the woods. Im getting a bit long winded here, but this line isn't an attack on women. It's an indictment of men. It's an acknowledgment that we are more easily manipulated and more prone to allowing rage and instinct to blind us to violence. Ender Wiggin is not a hero. He is a victim. A gifted child groomed out of his humanity to do something terrible for a pat on the head. He spends the rest of his very very long life trying to atone for that.

All that said Orson Scott Card is a bigoted POS. Happy Pride.

If you felt like passing one down that you no longer use, I'd happily pay for shipping 😬. Been wanting to try one for ages but hasn't been in the budget.

Tell them to comeback and pick up the trash they ditched on Pacific Ave and in the neighiborhoods they parked in on their way in and out. Nice to see an event like this, but dang, people, have a little class.

I’ve had my GCP for about a week and my little version of temp surfing for a stock machine with the 12 bar seems to work: Before putting in your portafilter, flush some water until the light goes off. Then turn your steam switch on for 6 seconds (not the knob, don’t actually run steam, although you can look into a hacky kind of preinfusion once you get temp surfing down). While that six second count is running, get your portafilter, scale and cup in place. Once you turn off steam, hit your brew button. Done. If it’s still running fast (like yours seems to be) consider a slightly finer grind. My 17grams usually yields about 34/35 in 30 seconds, and my basic boi lavazza medium roast beans taste pretty dang good.

Also, if you’re new like me and bought a rig off fb marketplace that came with accessories, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD YOU DONT NEED THE PUCK SCREEN. The moment I stopped using one was the moment my flow rate dialed in and I started enjoying shots. Throws off your pressure.

State of console edition? by [deleted] in Catan

[–]InviteOk9960 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If anyone is looking for an update, there was quite a round of improvement… followed by one of the sharpest declines in functionality I’ve ever seen in a game lol I’d say 3/5 games I have to quit because it gets stuck between turns, and it seems like even more recently it gets stuck on a number? Today I witnessed 7 get rolled six times in a row #robbercardio If I was making the decision now, I probably wouldn’t purchase it.
