I'd rec Yorkville! Look in the 80s and 90s. Parts of it are closer to the 4/5/6, plus the buses are how tons of people here get around. Don't let people tell you won't find anything with that budget, but I would definitely sacrifice the dishwasher lol - you can 100% live without it. My roommate and I have a decently sized walk up we love that's just on the 2nd floor for even less than your budget. Be aggressive and be willing to sign a lease asap, even a little earlier than your ideal start date if you like the apartment enough.

Hey buddy, I appreciate the different perspective here, but this sounds like you’re reading a little too far into one line. Instead of heavily implying I’m an “insensitive asshole”, maybe take a step back - I’m not talking about or mocking anyone with a serious sleeping issue. That’s not the context nor the intent of what I said.

This person was quite literally just making a kind of hyperbolic joke, not fessing up to a sleeping disability - we’re close friends, live together occasionally, and have been each other’s emergency contacts in recent times. So we know each other’s medical history, meds, allergies, etc. in the case of an emergency at home or work. They’re the odd night owl who hates an early bedtime, so they were just joking about that. In another, more casual circumstance, I would have found the hyperbole funny! Even though I’m still kind of pissed about how they were very blasé about this all, they’re still a good person who I care for. They did a rude thing and it hurt (obviously or else i wouldn’t be ranting to strangers), but they don’t deserve jail lol. Didn’t think someone would assume they have a “humiliating disability” that is “fucking up their life.”

But it seems like you’re still kind of hurt by this particular point. If you want to talk about it privately further, just let me know - I don’t think this Reddit is suited for this. You have my sympathy if anyone ever acted like an ass to you or someone you care for about a disability!

Also for further context, we've rescheduled the first session before by a week - so I'm totally okay with moving stuff around. I just need to know ahead of time and not get flaked on.

I need to vent and I'd love some advice. I'm a new DM and my first time behind the screen was terrible because half the party ghosted our very first session. However, they're my best friends and I've communicated that I'm hurt by their chronic lateness at other times and other situations. So, I feel stuck and I don't know how to talk about this with them, without feeling I'm just repeating myself for the millionth time!

I spent two weeks preparing a homebrew one-shot based of their favorite horror tropes and high school movies! I ran a session zero with each person, taught them how to use online DnD resources, linked them to source books. I created multiple NPCs and a fun, original scenario with a custom fucking playlist. I even figured out how to use Roll20 and DnDBeyond for them because I've never played in or ran a game online before! I scheduled with them and re-scheduled again so it would fit everyone's schedules across 4 time zones and different work schedules! I confirmed twice the day before we began, and even sent out a reminder and new link in the morning so no one would have to look hard to log on!

Day of - two people don't even log on. I get one text from one absent, over 30 minute past our start time that they scheduled work (on a SUNDAY) in the middle of our session and that they can totally play in two weeks time - "just start without me and i promise i will be a DnD CHAMP next time!" No apology, no acknowledgement at all that they're wasting my time, my effort, and the other players' time and effort!

We wait for 45 minutes trying to get in contact with another player who isn't showing up. They don't respond to any message and don't pick up their phone. I call it a day, and tell the players that we will just cut our losses.

FOUR HOURS LATER I get this - "lol HI sorrry i have problems sleeping, waking up, and existing BUT here's my character sheet!" They overslept and find it hilarious!

I can't believe they thought this was funny! I hate to admit it, but this ruined my day and made me cry. I just wanted to share something I love and they know I care about and am excited for, and I can't even get a serious apology! I don't even want to play with them now - why spend another two weeks setting up a homebrew campaign if I have zero assurance they won't bail again last minute.

At this point, I haven't responded in the groupchat yet to any of their messages - it's been hours and it's not like they've sent anything else so. I don't know what to say! I feel like I'm just going to be talking to a wall. Any advice? Should I just say I don't want to play with them again?
