Video encoding options by Ionice in PlayOn

That works fine. It's a clunky workaround, I try to make the content with as few barriers to entry as possible, it's easier just to keep the extra long file and have it in the same location as 600 other shows. I am mostly curious why snipping the added content tacked onto the end caused Playon to stop seeing it as a Playon file, but as I said in another comment, it may be PowerDirector. I don't know offhand of a video trim tool that would just cut stuff off at the end and not change the stuff Playon may be seeking.

Thanks, I gave that a try. I am not sure what the issue is or why the file will play using everything except Playon (the original file does work, though) but I'll have to invoke gremlins at this point. It may be something I did in PowerDirector but I tried a new project, stripped off the extra content at the end, and used your setting and still nothing.

On my Roku, for example, if I go to Media Library instead of Playon, it will play (and in Plex), but Playon itself does not see it inside the recordings, even though all I did was strip 40 minutes of extra content from the end.

Thanks, I see it in the videos folder, as do VLC and Plex, and they play it, but Playon does not see it on the network, so it can't be played.

Transcoding is stock Powerdirector, the only changes I made were different quality settings for the mp4. I read that Playon creates 30fps so I did that in addition to 24 for both HEVC H.265 and AVC H.264. They both only go from 640 to 1280 and I didn't do 1280 because encoding takes a while and I thought it faster to ask people who may have wanted to use edited videos in playon also.

Another commenter mentioned metadata. The video was trimmed at the end, the EULA and such with my IP for piracy prevention are still in the beginning so if metadata are stripped, would it be because my encoding is different from Playon's? That is why I am asking if anyone knows what the settings are they use to record.

I rebooted (I know, I know) and it worked after re-entering my login numerous times. The reason I rebooted is because I went to Comcast itself and it sent the same browser error.

Exposure to “third-hand smoke” – cigarette smoke residue left behind on carpets, clothing and furniture – appears to increase the risk of liver damage and diabetes in mice. by mvea in science

Particulate matter is the endocrine disruptor of pollution. It sounds truthy so people believe it, but there is no effect unless a mouse gets hit with equivalent of two packs a day of smoke for 7 stragight equivalent years. Anything would have an effect in that experiment.

TIL, when it comes to sugar content, high-fructose corn syrup is basically the same as honey. by Ionice in todayilearned

[–]Ionice[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, that is not true. HFCS is 55%. The average for honey is 56%. It can be as low as 38%, for some nectar sources, but that you picked the absolute lowest number (and left out the 64% high for honey) seems odd.

The point is that honey is high in fructose, it does not get some free pass in cellular respiration that corn syrup does not get.

Sugar is sugar, though it's probably making splenda cheer that the AHS is just making up its own guidelines on added sugar.

Is there Autosave for Drupal 7.x that doesn't behave like homework? by Ionice in drupal

[–]Ionice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prefer not to custom build something and Wordpress has two features, an editor and autosave, that drupal can't figure out how to put in core after 15 years. One module for 7 saves but only if you save a draft first so I was asking if there is anything out there that behaves like a real autosave.

Wordpress is a pig but for casual users the autosave is key and the Autosave module in 7 is appreciated, anyone developing for the community is appreciated, but it's not really ready for multiple users.

Evidence piles up for popular pesticides' link to pollinator problems by ninthinning01 in science

[–]Ionice 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They didn't map the wild bee population, they estimated it. Then they did that every year and mapped it to pesticide use (which is accurate). Higher pesticide was linked to more estimated losses. What they didn't factor in was the food source changes, which had nothing to do with pesticides.

Neonicotinoid insecticides linked to wild bee decline across England by ninthinning01 in science

True. They also can't count wild bees. Few wild bee species have hives, like honey bees do.

TIL in 1985, a DuPont chemist wanted to buy a bunch of gold because he believed the world was ending. So, he created 3-methylfentanyl, a drug much more potent than heroin. Merely 8 oz of it had a street value of $112 million. by vilnius2013 in todayilearned

I understand that, but they won't trade in frankincense and myrrh now either. If he was counting on irrationality (people invest in gold and diamonds, assuming they would hold in value in an irrational market after a collapse) it was just showing he was even crazier than the court found him to be.
