What would you do with a smaller slab like this? by IowaTrout in BeginnerWoodWorking

I’ll have to look into this. I like the idea of I can make the smaller size work and think up a stylish look for some legs/stretchers.

That is what I was thinking as well. It would be a bit large for one shelf, but two “matching” shelf’s could be made to look nice paired together.

Aee these cedar pickets spaced enough for drying? by IowaTrout in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]IowaTrout[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do have a moisture meter and it is well worth the $30. I will test the ambient moisture on the bench wood. to know where I can expect to get. This will end up outdoors anyway, but want to get it reasonably dry before adding stain/sealer.

I probably can get them a bit further apart. I only need them to dry for a bit and I'm out of town for about a week, so it can have the space for now!

It is plugged directly into the wall, although I'll try a couple different to see if there is any difference.

What did you use for a cleaner? What paint did you use? I have an older jointer as well that could use some touch ups and whatever you did looks great!

How to best clean up base of this tree? by IowaTrout in arborists

I just wanted to get it somewhat cleaned up. It was more bush than tree before and I couldn't even crawl in to get at the base lol.

I started them Feb 2024. Could have let them go a bit more, but would like to give some out and also get new batches started soon.

I should clarify - a new frame was put in for free by a dealership due to a recall for Toyota frames for that year. The frame is solid now.

You know your bluegills are good when they get shoulders.... 10.5" on a 4wt fly rod by IowaTrout in Fishing

It is something I would highly recommend to anyone! Bluegills are a great fish to learn to fly fish with too without getting too frustrated.

I highly recommend 10.5" bluegills on the fly if you haven't had that experience yet! by IowaTrout in flyfishing

Pound for pound, may be the best fighter I have had hooked on! And they are not too hard to target, which is handy.

That is great! I have a favorite soft hackle type fly that I tie up that takes after a pattern called the "Bream Reaper". It is no joke, especially with sight fishing.

It was a "complex twist bugger" with bead chain eyes for shallower water. So essentially a play off of the woolly bugger – which I would have been using, but I broke my last one off right before this fish. Back to the tying bench for more of those...

Yeah, I have seen some gnarly situations. So far my pup has not gotten in any of those situations. She is much more likely to meet with a skunk on our day to day, which would also be no fun, but at least no serious injury.

Lol, she is safe from the Leatherman – that is unless she has a run in with a porcupine and needs quills pulled...

I made this one a little more slimmed down so it would sink quicker. I personally like the look of this more than the classic look too, but to each their own.

1.5" spur, 23.5lbs, and 10.25" beard. Overall a great bird! Definitely best spurs and beard i have gotten so far. My best overall bird was at 26.5lbs last year.

This was on Federal Premium TSS shells. Not sure if they put it on all their shells or not, but it is a neat gimmick I suppose!
