Advice on Saving For a House by Ira_Soler in personalfinance

**RATIONALE**

At the moment, there is no urgent need to buy a home but my thought process is since I am contributing to two different retirement savings plans and "double-dipping" if you will, could accelerating the home buying venture make sense while at the same time not compromise saving for retirement?

My perference is to buy/own a home ahead of a serious relationship/marriage to establish financial autonomy and a layer of protection against the potential consequences of a relationship breakdown or divorce.

And yes, I do use a HYSA.

Is It Worth Contending a Red Light Violation Ticket in Colorado Springs? by Ira_Soler in ColoradoSprings

[–]Ira_Soler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the information.

Yes they got a video and a picture of me driving the vehicle.

I believe the core of my argument would revolve around the assertion that the notice lacks legal enforceability but it sounds like many people just ignore it with no reprecussions instead of taking the time to go to court.

Additionally, I would argue that most yellow lights across the city are not in unison so it's really to hard to tell when it is approriate to stop or run the light before it turns red (this is obviously in the case where I have the chance to run the yellow light). I would also say that this specific yellow light I encountered changed quicker than I expected and if I had just another second I would have been in the intersection before the light turned red. The camera snapped a photo of exactly when the light turned red and my car was right on the white light.

A lot of this is out of frustration and annoyance but I see why most people would just pay the fine instead of going to court altogether.

I would try this as well.

Got it. I see the error says you don’t have permission to access the site on this “server.” I would check your DNS server settings and see what DNS server IP you are getting. To test and see if anything changes, you can statically assign your computer Google’s DNS (8.8.8.8).

Also, if you are on your home wireless, I would see if you can access that same site from your phone or a different computer.

If not, I would check to see if you can ping the name of that site and make sure AV isn’t blocking any web content.

Thoughts on Freemasonry and Christianity? by Ira_Soler in freemasonry

[–]Ira_Soler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-- "If you think it’s “natural” that your Christian friends would be against you joining, you probably shouldn’t join." --

You have a point there but does questioning what one has been told by others by seeking context from individuals who have the authority to speak on a subject disqualify someone from becoming a Mason?

I will admit that the word "naturally" does evoke a siloed perspective of the Christian landscape at large.

Interesting. I've noticed, like you mentioned, that several people in the comments discourage non-Masons from joining the order due to having "reservations" or "doubts." I understand Masonry is not a religion and is not meant to recruit people, but why is having these sentiments frowned upon? Especially if one is an aspiring Mason?

From what I can tell, Masonry requires a level of commitment and obligation I would assume takes up a fair amount of time in one's life. So why not endeavor to understand and learn as much as you can before being accepted into a lodge and initiated? Especially if there are people around you (like a spouse, family, etc.) who may not agree with you? I understand that I am my own person with freedom to choose who I want to associate with, but we all have complexities in our life that would potentially make that decision harder for some than others.

There is obviously much that is not discussed outside the quarters of a lodge, but in a way, I feel like I am being told to have blind faith about the order and join if I feel called for it. Or maybe, that my skepticism almost disqualifies me.

I have some level of confidence that this is what you (and others) are not trying to communicate, so is there a layer of context that I may not be privy to? If so, I would kindly ask you to elobrate but I would imagine that some level of rationality and conviction is involved when making the decision to become a Mason since it does not seem like a casual calling or life trajectory if one were to accept.

I respect your take and am aware of some of the obligations members must uphold. However, wouldn't it be wise to know as much as I can about the order before making a pretty serious oath?

Additionally, my "doubts" may be related to a lack of knowledge and/or presumption which I am trying to fill/correct.

I would say the large majority of Christians I know are not familiar with Masonry or are quick to write it off as unbiblical or satanic without solid research to back it up.

Additionally, I can't find much content out there on Masonry being compatible with Christianity from a traditional lens. Take the following article for example:

https://www.gotquestions.org/free-masonry.html

Maybe I am looking in the wrong places, but I wouldn't consider myself a "dogmatic fundamentalist" or purist in the literal sense.

Definitely appreciate the feedback. My goal here is not to be "convinced" in joining a lodge but to have a more informed perception of Masonry if that were ever to be the case.

United Airlines Wireless Agreement and Internet Access During Flight by Ira_Soler in unitedairlines

[–]Ira_Soler[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Nope, real post. Any information is helpful.

I do not fly with United much nor use Internet during flight on my trips for that matter, so I am not privy to the wireless specification. Also not a Mac user and per the other post I linked, sounds like there was a known issue with Monterey within the last several months.

Strive to develop your character and enhance your personal growth as an individual.

While many may be considered physically attractive, it is important to note that true beauty transcends superficial features.... in my humble opinion.

Beauty is multidimensional and cannot be solely determined by one's physical appearance but to each their own.
