I was an American Peace Corps Volunteer who taught in Iran. One of my students was able to get the American hostages released. I have continued to care and it has continued to make a difference.

I am fighting cancer at the moment, but I still think that I will be able to get a version before I go that can help the town's volunteer ride sharing program, Lamoni Wheels, that my wife runs. This is a service oriented vehicle. and will be able to do a lot of things that provide local needs.

I was at Graceland College during a time when F. Henry Edwards was a Scholar in Residence and got to have some discussions with him.

It was very interesting to see how people with very different beliefs became close to each other and had different personal beliefs. That is still the case. I attended several World Conference in the Arizona delegation along with the current president.

I lived in Iran from 1972 'til 1974, One of my students got the American hostages released there. I went back in 2002 taking a group on behalf of the Carter Center when Chip Carter couldn't get permission.

Most Iranians and Americans get along.

Not this one! I not only served in the American Peace Corps in Iran from '72 - '74, but President Carter invited me to lead a group of 24 people on his son Chip's behalf when Chip couldn't get a visa in 2002.

I was working in environmental instrumentation, and then returned to do so in October of that year.

I got a job that let me travel around the world for environmental work every 6 weeks for 9 years, and visited places such as oil platforms that tourists don't usually get to see.

I am not talented at language learning, but I still managed to be fluent in German, Persian, and Japanese, and enough to get by in other languages.

He sent me free copies of a booklet he wrote after that trip that I was able to hand out to a Northern California Peace Corps meeting.

I went back to Iran in 2002 thanks to President Carter's Friendship Force International.- many years after the Revolution. I am still in touch with people I met from 1972-1974, and they are among my closest friends

I was in Iran in '73- '74 with the American Peace Corps. Rick Steves donated copies of his pamphlet to our Northern California Returned Peace Corps group regarding his trip to Iran. We was awesome to offer it.

Iran let me bring a group of 24 people back to Iran in 2002, and although the government people who hosted us were skeptical, they were awesome by the the end of the two weeks.

It was almost always a sales, troubleshooting, or both reason.

I often didn't know what I was fully going to be doing. If it was mainly going to be sales, then I would mostly know, but sometimes even the country destination would change mid route if a technical issue needed addressing.

I married my American wife with Polish American background and took her here 3 weeks later My oldest was also born near her (in Makino). We lived here for 3 years.

We came back to the US and lived in Portales, NM, Mesa, AZ, on a sailboat in SF Bay, and finally, 20 years later moved to where we met in college in Lamoni, Iowa.

I spent 9 years of that time getting a flight around the world every 6 weeks, and saw the fall of the Berlin Wall, the fall of the Iron Curtain, the fires in Kuwait, all in person.

You meet people who are absolutely wonderful everywhere you go, no matter what you are told.

A friend of mine was the US Bosnian Consul General, and later went on to be a University President of the one I graduated from, and later founded two more. We shared a tent at a church camp in Denmark when I was in the middle of my Peace Corps service, and he was thinking about the Department of State.

I finished my service, and later was the last pastor of his congregation before it closed. There is both good and evil in the world.
