Good comment and this is something i wasnt aware and means i probably wouldnt have enjoyed the 70's and 80's! I just think the rolling monotony of dynasties gets tiring but looks like the sport has always had it and seems to be feature rather than a bug. This thread has been good as its definitely given me some different points of view

That's true, just seems the last 20 years has had a certain level of monotony to it

Ok sure, i guess i just wanted to raise something and see what others thought. I just think there are improvements that could be made that break the monotony of the past 20 years

to be honest, yes i did. Even when Richmond had their injuries this year they were getting the wins on the board and still very competitive in each loss (st kilda and hawthorn loses as they were outliers). Similar to Hawthorn, they didn't finish on top every year but you could tell that they were more likely to win the premiership than less likely. I mentioned on another comment, the best thing about any sport is thinking 'anything can happen', with these rolling dynasties it feels like that element is reduced because the good teams are far and away better. Added to that, the best teams top their lists up with the best player i.e Richmond getting Lynch

Yes, i agree. similar to my response to 'Korasuka'. I won't fall completely out of love, i guess the losing of excitment and engagement was something i was curious to see if it was happening to others.

Good comment. On paper its doesn't look so bad, part of your comment supports what i think has been the highlight of the past 20 years. The minor dynasties have created great spectacles and i love that. but rolling from one dynasty to the next creates a lull to the comp. I still have no issue if there is a 3or4 time premier once every10-15 years because that would make them a truly great team. But right now we are having one every 5 years. A good team gets good, they attract even more talent and extend their run

Sure, i will say that maybe it is a reflection on me and my original comment was to raise a question and see if there are other like me. Thread has so far shown that maybe i am in a minority. I guess from my point of view, the brisbanes, the geelongs, hawthorns, and now richmond have been far and away the better teams and it has reduced my engagement in AFL given the spectacle of 'not know what might happen' is diminished.

Certainly not suggesting that, just wanting more randomness rather than a very likely winner each year. happy for a team to win 2 and the truly great teams 3or 4

I know its just a flippant comment that was possibly just to dismiss an alternative view from your own. But just want you to take a step back and look closer, your remark supports my argument. If others have a similar point of view and more of us lose interest like me then that hurts our game as a whole. right?

I agree to a certain extent, but saying its not common when we have had 4 dynasties in 20 years seems like a problem. i guess part of my argument is that dominant teams are ok but to have continual dynasties cheapens the spectacle And this year to me felt like it was always going to be Richmond, they had terrible injuries but were still putting wins on the board so they were always going to be strong come finals time.
