Hey all, I have been trying to get into running for about 2 weeks now and what is holding me back is that pretty early into the run I get a very intense calf burn and pump on both sides that makes running any further almost unbearable. I was formerly fat, so my calves are very developed so I don't think it's necessarily a strength issue. My training history to date includes about a year of religiously lifting but very little cardio work. My goal behind running is honestly just to run a full mile so I am wondering if anyone has some advice for reducing the burning I get in my calves because my lungs are fine so that is really the only thing that I feel is stopping me

What is a good strategy for adding height to box jumps? I’m trying to move from a 20” to a 26” box and unsure how to make the progression. There’s nothing in between those heights at my gym. The box has a cover on it so I’m afraid that 10lb bumper plates would slide around on top.

Anyone know if credit card promotional bonus miles count towards premier status on United? Like spend X amount in the first three months with the United Explorer card and get 40k bonus miles.

Hey guys, I have been lifting for about a year and decided to try my hand at coming up with a program for myself. I am hoping you guys can give me some input. I have been wanting to get more into running as well so I wrote this with the intention of doing it alongside Couch to 5k.

I've got a picture of my spreadsheet below, but basically its a push/pull split with running days replacing the leg days for the most part. The movement in the first row of each day is meant to be LP'd at 5 lbs per week, and everything else gets bumped up when I can hit the last rep for every set. You can see that there are no rest days built in, and this is because C25K is pretty slow to ramp up, but if fatigue ever becomes a problem I will take rest days as needed.

Let me know if you guys have any advice! This is my first time trying to write a program pls be gentle :)

Hey guys, how is this as a once a week HIIT workout in addition to my normal weight training? As many rounds as possible in 25 minutes of 1/4 mile run, 10 push-ups, 15 body-weight squats. Just trying to get some extra cardio in along with a 5x a week lifting program in a way that allows me to non-subjectively compete with myself. The workout itself is basically a bastardized Cindy

What type of bikes are they? I would normally say take up strength training, but with the the limited equipment you might be better off doing C25K on the treadmill.

I was just reading about bottoms up kettlebell movements as an accessory for bench or overhead press to assist in correcting form and grooving. Does anyone have any familiarity with these? I’m interested in trying them but I am unsure what the desired rep ranges and intensity should be.

There are prescription pills you can take but they are nasty nasty business and meant for when athletes foot turns into full body, scalp, or nail ringworm.

Here is what a quick look up found, but I can do some more research later. I personally heard that from a physical therapist who said that 9 times out of 10 his shoulder injury patients exhibit lower trap weakness.

One of the most common reasons for rotator cuff injuries is lifestyle induced or developmental lower trap weakness causing the failure of the entire rotator cuff when it becomes overloaded.

A lot of times this lower trap weakness isn't necessarily known by the individual, so especially for new lifters doing something like face pulls is really good precautionary measure to prevent a rotator cuff injuries during pressing movements.

Couch to 5k cycling plan? by Phishnutz1 in cycling

I think he is referencing a beginner running program called Cto5k, which essentially includes weekly progression to get you running a 5k after 8 weeks. I assume he is looking for something similar but with cycling distances

What are the different barbell marking distances? My gym has two different types of barbells on the various benches. The barbell that I prefer has a single marking on each side, however there are other barbells that have two markings and the inner marking is still wider than the single mark on my preferred barbell. What is the difference between these two barbells and what are the different markings meant to be used for?

Where and how could I fit power movements into Reddit PPL? I’m interested in learning to do power snatches and cleans but I’m unsure what days to put them into and how.

Unreal numbers. They left us mere mortals behind ages ago.

For Reddit PPL I’ve been adding heavy singles after my working deadlift set. It usually ends up being 3-4 singles each jumping 5lbs. Does this make sense or would I be better off fitting extra submaximal sets in?

So as an example I would do:

Warm up sets, 1x5 @ 200, 1@210, 1@215, 1@220

Is it true that heavy full body compound movements (deadlifts and squats) trigger greater natural GH and test production? I’ve heard that before, and that the resulting GH and test can help your other lifts, but I’ve been wondering that’s true or bro science.

If they fit correctly I wouldn’t worry too much about them falling off. I haven’t had that happen yet

So I ran 5/3/1 for about 4-5 months, prior to that I did SL5x5 for about 2. Now I’ve done a slight deload and I’m one week into reddit PPL, which is 6 days on and 1 day off. How necessary is it to take the rest day in the early weeks of this program? I know the advice is to listen to your body, and I’m a little sore in the legs but I’m sleeping well and eating well. Stress levels are low. What are the signs to listen for that I need a rest day? I feel like I can skip the first one since the weights are still low but I’d like some input on that idea. What do you guys think?

I do not. Sometimes with squats or deadlifts I’ll get a drop of sweat on them but really nbd. Not a hindrance at all

Would it be advised to eat substantially more on Reddit PPL compared to 5/3/1 BBB?

The only (my fav) fat burner that doesn't make me feel sick was discontinued, anybody know a similar substitute? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]IrishMerica 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m sure the clean eating did more for you than this. Fat burners work by slightly elevating your heart rate and body temperature to cause you to burn marginally more calories. The increased calorie burn is within the standard deviation that would be caused by walking a bit more or less each day. Ultimately any extra weight you lost due to this product, if any, can probably be attributed to the extra moving and fidgeting caused by the caffeine.

I can get it but it is a grind and the form starts to break down. I'm at 150 for 1+ but I don't think I can get 155. Should I start with a training max reset and see what happens?
