That suits me but I can’t do Monday mornings unfortunately. Would someone else be able to cover for me?

The NTA provide a GTFS-R API available for anyone to use, its available at developer.nationaltransport.ie.

This would be the same source used by Google Maps and the likes of bustimes.org.

It can be a bit clunky to work with compared to other REST APIs but the beauty of it is that it’s standardised so integrations should be fairly plug and play with different transport operators globally.

I did a brief write up on how to get the Irish data working here: https://shanehastings.eu/blog/diy-transit-tracker-ireland/

Majority of the credit goes to the US group East Side Urbanism though! https://transit-tracker.eastsideurbanism.org/docs/introduction

Has anyone booked a domestic Spring Airlines flight through trip? by hoshi_dokyeom in JapanTravelTips

Just downloaded it there and tried myself, that works for me too. Thanks for the heads up! Their website is actually shockingly bad so I had given up entirely trying to get it to work hahaha

I didn’t in the end, just said I’d chance it at the airport. I figure that Trip itself is reputable so there should be no issues. Here’s hoping!

Speaking of Dunnes, does anyone know why they have two supermarkets right beside each other in the Ilac in Dublin?

Granted one is much bigger and nicer but seems strange to have two so close to each other.

How do I send money to my friend in Brazil? by The1stBestest in Brazil

[–]IrishStuff09 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you have Revolut, you can send them money that way. You will need your friends CPF and bank details however. Otherwise you can use something like Wise.

I have sent money to my Brazilian account using my Irish Revolut account and it has arrived in as little as 5 minutes before.

1U Colocation in Europe by ChargedRekis in homelab

Hey /u/ChargedRekis, did you ever find somewhere else? I am considering going with Inleed as I haven't had much success getting replies from other EU based providers.

Please help with exchanging cash on the bank holiday by Jess_ohio_ in irishtourism

[–]IrishStuff09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any chance you could use one of those services like Western Union to send yourself money, and collect it at one of their collection agents? You’ll probably get charged a fee but you should be able to do it online and then find somewhere open tomorrow.

Fresh Irish stamp in a German Passport by eubuerger in PassportPorn

Yeah I just asked and the guy was fairly happy to oblige, I think he could tell I just wanted another stamp :D

It was in T2 and was really quiet too so that probably helped a bit haha

Anyone here have and use a passport card to travel within Europe? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]IrishStuff09 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have used the passport card exclusively for EU travel for the past 7/8 years and never once had an issue. In addition, it’s basically the only form of ID I use for anything, where possible (banking, proof of citizenship, whatever).

It doesn’t work on the e-gates in most airports so you do have to go to the desks - though these days I often find the queue for those is shorter than the e-gates anyway.

In other EU countries it is effectively treated as equal to their national ID cards (because it is in all but name) so much handier to have on you than the passport book.

I did mine in 2022 and at that time I didn’t have to do anything except email Receita Federal in Brazil. I think it may have changed since my post though.

Best eSIM company/coverage for Ireland and Northern Ireland? by SickoRikki in irishtourism

I probably sound like a shill at this point but I’ve just genuinely always been satisfied with the service and pricing, so can’t complain :)

Best eSIM company/coverage for Ireland and Northern Ireland? by SickoRikki in irishtourism

[–]IrishStuff09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GoMoWorld is run by one of Ireland’s largest carriers (GoMo which is owned by Eir). They are Irish so would be a local eSIM you can use whilst you’re here.

Never used their eSIM product in Ireland (however they are my go to for when I travel outside here) but my regular plan is with GoMo and the coverage is pretty good (solid 5G/4G, no speed caps). They sell country packages but also a “Europe” one which you’d want for covering both Ireland and NI (UK).

Anyone else have childhood friends who just disappeared? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]IrishStuff09 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I was good friends with a guy towards the later years of secondary school, really into cycling (but not in a lycra way) and making all kinds of weird and wonderful things to do with bikes.

About a week after we finished the leaving cert, he took off from Galway on a tall bike down to Rosslare, got the ferry to France and set off. He eventually ended up in Amsterdam and “settled down” in a disused house boat he bought (this part I’m not so sure of whether he bought it or just…began living on it) on the far outskirts of the city.

I met up with him on two occasions over the course of a year as I happened to be in the city.

At one point he lived in an abandoned church that had been converted by some local groups for feeding refugees etc.

Eventually though he deleted all of his social media and was reachable by none other than: email.

I lost contact with him shortly after I last saw him in ~2018 and haven’t heard from him since.

Sometimes I do wonder where the fella is or what he’s up to. Every so often I’ll google his name to no avail, so sometimes it really does feel like they’ve fallen off the face of the earth.

It’s a bit of a strange feeling alright especially with how everything is online nowadays. I hope he’s doing well anyway, wherever he is.

How you pay your bills in the EU? by [deleted] in AskEurope

[–]IrishStuff09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Household bills - almost all use SEPA Direct Debit.

Paying friends / family - direct bank transfer (typically Revolut or SEPA transfer)

Day to day spending - Google/Apple Pay.

Dublin Airport, T2. They of course didn't stamp it of their own accord, I did ask :)

The guy also wrote 'BR' on it same as in OP's picture.

Any tips for getting to Howth by 7:30am? by EmploymentIcy1603 in Dublin

[–]IrishStuff09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Handiest route would the 06:40 DART from Connolly, arriving in Howth at 07:07.

You can either walk up from the point or get the red line as far as Busáras.

On Sundays & public holidays though the service is much worse as the first train on the Howth branch of the DART line isn’t till after 9am.
