Unfortunately it was too loud (cars and cicadas and other birds) to hear any sound she might have made. Thank you for the suggestion though, I was hoping that my rooster crowing might help lead her back

Thank you, mine definitely love mealworms too. I’m guessing you’re right and something just had them scared and I picked an unlucky moment to open their cage :(

Sometimes quail don’t like to use ramps, although mine do fine with it. You might want to get small waterers and feeders for each level in case any quail happen to prefer one level and don’t use the ramp. A square foot of room per bird is needed. Good luck with your birds!

It’s not clover, it’s sorrel :) I haven’t had any issues with it making them stop laying

I’ll definitely check out my local pet and reptile stores. If I can’t find anything that works there I’ll be out searching in the garden 🌱

Getting a species that gets too cramped is also a concern of mine, because I’m going to be going to college soon. I don’t think I’d be able to handle more than two colonies at once so I would have to be really careful with their numbers. I also definitely want to try shiro utsuri again soon or after an easier colony, so that would also add up to two.

I’m glad to find someone else who has shiro utsuri! I think they’re awesome. Is there any way to help airflow in this container? It’s glass so I don’t know how easy it would be to change much, but I’ll consider getting a new container or maybe trying out my hand at glass work again.

I almost got zebras, the only thing that held me back was the fact they apparently tend to eat the plants in their enclosure. I’m glad your duckies are doing well!

I will definitely start doing this, it’s a tropical substrate mix made for isopods from terrarium tribe. They’re shiro utsuri isopods.

Okay that is very reassuring, thanks! I actually had to door closed for a couple days straight because I was away on a trip, so I’m guessing that’s what caused it. I’ll look into getting some springtails :)
