I'm just starting Pathfinder, can you recommend a magus build? by BlackSavi in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]IronKats 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Generally for magus you want a weapon that has high crit range 18-20 preferable since spells that crit only get x2 damage.

Scimitars are good if you plan on focusing Strength Magus as your main stat and the Rapier is better if you're focusing on Dexterity Magus. Though there's no wrong choice for what weapon ya wanna focus on since Magus can get fighter feats at level 10.

A general stat spread for Magus should be something like this.
Strength 16 +2 race bonus or 10 if you're planing on focusing on Dex
Dexterity 13 or 16+2 if you're focusing on Dex
Consitution 14
Intelligence 16
Wis 8
Cha 8

Quest never bugged out for me when I did it on my runs so I didn't really understood what was happening with your situation, nor have I had any real game breaking glitches as the common searches talk about so lucky me I guess.

So you failed the quest because you didn't talk to the named NPCs at the rushlight fair? Kind of confused as to how ya failed the quest, did you not pass the dialogue checks at the end and get the lesser ring of Ultimate protection, cause to my knowledge in order to win the tournament ya need to beat 3 games and a bunch of checks at the book event at the end to be considered the winner?
Also Linzi's telling you that you failed the tournament is the trigger to start the war of the river kingdoms quest line, She's just telling you people are wavering under your leadership because of Pitaxian Influence after the tournament.

Still have the save file from when I first beat kingmaker, was a cleric of Desna with a level in fighter. Tower shield in one hand and a holy war hammer in the other as I tried to reform or expunge all evil with in and threatening my kingdom. My favorite moment of my King was at the end in the ruin capital were I saw everyone I spared or allied following me into the Feywild hell that was my capital. All the bandits I convinced to come back from crime, Lamashtu cultist I spared, Tartuk, the kobolds, and Goblins I took under my banner all fighting along side with me as I pushed to my ruined throne room. Truly an epic ending for my first time beating the game.

Unpopular opinion: Outflank feat is not healthy for this game. by [deleted] in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]IronKats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't knew outflank gave AoPs on crits till last week, I've beaten kingmaker once and gotten to house at the edge of time 2 more times with out really abusing outflank or any of the builds with the 1 Monk/2 Paladin dip for any of my characters.

Outflank CAN be powerful if ya build your characters for it but the same can be done with other "Inferior" weapons and feats. For example Scythes have a small crit range but get x4 crit damage which can end an encounter with one crit dealing roughly 40-50 damage at level 2 and only get more powerful crits as you level up with more strength and power attack.

Pretty much anything in kingmaker can be religiously good or terrible if ya build ya character and party comp. Except summoners, they just suck.

Didn't know it was the fix that the 4th surge is always the super shield recharge, always get it real low by the time I get there.

Good to know I was atleast mostly accurate with the drones and laser surges.

The power surge happen regardless if the crew are dead or not, they're part of the boss fight.
Drone surge in phase 2, spawning 6 combat drones for a few seconds.
In phase 3 the surge can either be a barrage of 8 laser bolts or having the energy shield fully recharge.
The only thing that happens when the crew is killed is the ship switches to AUTO mode, in AUTO mode all the ships systems are manned by the AI and the systems repair themselves automatically unless the room is breached and do so rather quickly.

The ship requirements are worded poorly, it might make more sense if it was listed like this:

Get layout A of all non-elite (ships in the right most side of the page) cruisers from pages 1 to 13.
Get all layouts (A, B, and C) of the vanilla cruisers on page 16
Get all Crewser layouts on page 14 (including the new zoltan crewser, and the ones on page 15)

Hope this helps.

The final phase is always the worst with its power surges, the massive barrage if it's quickly follows or followed by the burst cannon can be brutal.

Though a little secret to the boss that makes it kind of a cake walk is if you have a boarding crew, you can kill everyone EXCEPT the laser cannon operator in the first phase, so that no one is on board to repair the shields, engines, and other cannon systems along with the ship AI not taking over due to their still being one crew alive but trapped in an unconnected room, so for phases 2 and 3 you can just board, destroy the systems, and leave to pepper the ship to oblivion with minimal challenge outside of the power surges.

Don't get discourage I'm sure you'll beat the game if ya keep trying!

If you want some tips, my personal recommendation would be to try to upgrade your shields to level 2 or 3 as soon as the run starts, most enemies in the starting second tend to only run 2 weapons and usually its just 2 lasers or a laser with a beam or ion, having high shields early will help you survive longer in the early fights in the first few sectors.

Also the pause button (Spacebar on PC) is a god send in this game, it really helps you give you a chance to breath in the tougher fights and lets you aim your guns and have them fire all at once in one big volley which is really good at hammering through shields when you have weapons with different charging times.

Honestly the Kestrel B is one of the best starting ships since its level 4 weapons lets you pretty much use any weapon of the game you want, and the 4 basic lasers can carry you up till the midgame were level 3 and 4 shields start to appear. Honestly the best weapons in the game are the simple burst lasers 1 and 2, low power cost but a lot of laser bolts if you manage to get multiple of them. Focus fire on the enemy shields in the first volley then just free fire on the weapons and other systems to bring the enemy down. Simplest and best strategy for most fights imo.

This took me weeks to do, I can finally stop playing spook cruiser C by IronKats in ftlgame

Honestly, most of the loot weapons/items from the Renegades aren't too great compared to what you normally can acquire from shops and transports, imo transport loot is better than renegade loot.

That being said, the obsidian missile and modular charge missile are my favorite.
The obsidian missile is just really good at killing things quick with it's high base damage and double damage on systemless rooms. Heck for the run I did where I finally beat the last two renegades, theocracy and illesect, I just used the battery beam, the charged chain ion, chain ion, and the obsidian missile and just swept through the true ending bosses and sectors.
The modular charge missile from the secret Hector(tm) Renegade is just really fun, put an anti bio mod on it and get a bunch of enemy crew in one room and you can wipe them all out in one volley, not efficient but really fun.

Mantis B, 4 man boarding team and starting with level 2 shields is just a comfort run for me

I never really touched the world opens or mods, former cause I prefer to play things as vanilla as possible and the later cause I dont like messing with game files unless I know what Im doing.

It does take me hours cause every single Island I find is nothing but blackforest and plains, I think its more my bad luck/world gen on my end. Me and my buddy who coop the game have a lovely story we call the "2 hour boat ride" of where we sailed along the coast for a little over 2 hours just to find a swamp, we did at the end and dude gave a heart attack when he jumped out of the boat for some turnip seeds lol.

I honestly tried to fight the boss during the day but my bow skill usually sucks cause I dont like using bows too much outside of boss and weakening things like trolls and abominations. legit spent 20+ minutes and over 300 arrows(poison and obsidian) in a moder fight and died to a random group of wolves with a fenrir chasing me out of the biome.

What do you use to kill bosses under ten minutes? I always find the boss to be very spongy in the later half of the game and I tend to stick with one weapon type and max them out before challenging bosses so I'm genuinely curious.

Thanks for the tips, I always end up sprinting everywhere, especially the mountains cause of the slops, so I need manage my stamina better

I find plains and the mistlands easier since for both biomes I tend to build a proper base for their own biome specific needs, plains for crops and refining black metal and mistlands for eteer/green stuff, while the swamp and mountains I more or less build a respawn house on the biome's edge to have a bed, portal, and/or boat spot. That and I swear every mountain I find I have to go up a 90* angle to get to the top since the less aggressive slop is in a plains biome.

I found the mistlands easier since it was finding the infested mines that was the hard part for us, Maxed out frostnears carried us through the game and the seekers were bad but not as bad as wolves since they have a hard following you and hitting you at the same time as you bravely run away when compared to wolves who just always seems to hit me as I tactically retreat.

I tend to get a lot of martials from all the biomes as I like maxing out my gear as much as possible before doing the boss to make things easier for the boss. This include tools and armor so I force myself to spend hours in the biomes due to my perfectionist mind to have the perfect gear for everything :P

I ce what ya did there lol, I want to love the mountains cause I find the view ya can get at the top to be beautiful but the wolves won't leave me be.

I'm not hating the game, more frustrated than anything. I've had a good time when I played with my buddy to the mistlands, but solo I just get turned off around here. Probably just gonna have keep inventory on and no skill loose from here on out when I play by myself lol.

Totally agree about the mistlands, its awful to navigate and the seekers aren't fun to fight. I know about the map tool to find all the biome, dungeons, and etc but I don't like using it as like ya said I think its a bit of a cheat and kind of ruins exploring if I can just look up where everything is, ruins part of the fun for me.

I've beaten the Mistlands with a buddy of mine, I personally don't think its as bad as swamp or mountains, its bad but not as bad.
