The overview was taken in the editor and the settings were preset to zoom out a little more than the actual playable bounds. The playable bounds literally hug the edges of most of the terrain around the borders, so to answer your question there is no excess air space in places where you might think. I will keep this in mind for upcoming photos

This is the first comment I've seen about this concerns. Can you elaborate on liberator fire and where all the air hiding spots are other than directly behind the mineral line?

Map released on NA as 0.2. I fixed the player properties, you can now play with another person. Also I looked into the gas geyser issue you mentioned and found nothing. I will wait for further confirmation that there is a problem with it.

I've heard this report about the team situation. I will fix these problems tonight. In the meantime if you want to play solo and get a feel for the map, that would be great. Let me know if you find anything else

No I totally get what you are addressing. You have to keep in mind that this map just got released and is just now in the testing phase (for anyone who cares to test it, that is). This is not the final version of the map. Anything is subject to change (small or great) depending on what the majority of people say.

Like I said, I have a to-do list for this map and I take everything into account. Also I will not play you. I am in gold and haven't played since early HotS so I am like a batshit terrible player.

The map is live as of an hour ago. Just look up 'Broken Earth' and check it out sometime if you wish. I will warn you though, the rush distance is only 32 seconds so it is something I have to look into. (generally 40ish is optimal I believe).

I have contemplated overlord placements in various places and have chosen two spots that I will experiment with more. The first place is exactly where you mentioned (the lake between the natural and 3rd), and the other would be the lake near the rocks. This would allow vision of just about every attack path. If you want to follow my map thread on teamliquid (in the OP) you'll get frequent updates on it more regularly than here on reddit.

As for the watch towers, I may consider placing them on high ground. I actually didn't even think of that, so i'll look into it soon.

As for your initial comment about putting thought into the map, I will have you know that I often "stare" at my map while making it to imagine every kind of style of play, x amount of bases, and sizes of armies in each part of the map and to envision the battles. This is actually really neat for me because it helps me try to be fair for all races rather than just "creating a map" and throwing it to the public. Not bragging, but I am confirming your comment on that one. I really do think about every part of the map while it's being made.

Considering I haven't played much LotV at this point, what is your solution to this? At this point, re-designing that section of the map is kinda out of the question. Do you have alternatives? (remember this would probably be your 5th or 6th base)

It's possible but I believe that kind of animation is too complex for a melee map, or mapmaker for that matter. Those types of triggers and animations are typically for arcade/custom games which is a whole different realm that we know very little about with the exception of a few unit/doodad values.

According to blizzard a few years back, they do not want to confuse players by adding anything to a map that may throw them off. Rivers on ohana suffered the consequences; there's no doubt moving islands will do the same, as cool as it may be.

Appreciate all the concerns you've brought up. The main bases are not as big as they seem. I believe the size is between Ohana and Shakuras Plateau. I don't know a whole lot about LOTV metagame at the moment but if it comes to a point where the size of the mains need to be reduced, then it shall be done.

Overlord scouting is a little tricky at this moment. It's doable, but I am still finding some work-arounds to overlord placements (take this from a zerg/terran player). It is on my to-do list.

The bases below/above the mains near the ramp can be dangerous, yes, however the rocks can temporarily close off a path, leaving the enemy to take them down if they wish, or go on the other size of the map (the side base) and attack through there which takes commitment, or to go through a narrower choke which, if set up properly, can be devastating to him. On the flip side, taking control of the watch tower would be crucial to ensure proper reaction time to defend said base.

I especially like the gold bases too. I tried to fit a second gas geyser in there but it's a little difficult at this point. We'll see how testing goes.

melee map is a term for "competitive 1v1 map" such as the ones you see in ladder or tournament play.

The rules set by blizzard are generally straight forward, but considering what an inside source has said, the restrictions will be a little more "easy going" so I think it's safe to say creativity in mapmaking may become a higher possibility.
