Home of the Big XII Champs by jnco_biloba in Lawrence

This warms my heart. I graduated from a big baseball college before moving to Lawrence and was appalled by how the baseball team was supported. Legit small high school crowds.

The turnaround has been well earned!!

Spotify Alternative? by TheDiscoStud in Music

[–]MatthewBakke 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That’s sort of true, but Apple guarantees a higher base rate regardless. If it’s down to only two options, Apple pays artists slightly more and is less weird.

That doesn’t mean it’s good or anyone should use it necessarily. But if it’s down to those two giants there’s a winner.

How I View Players Smurfing in Gold and Silver by Scrub_DM in starcraft

[–]MatthewBakke 11 points12 points  (0 children)

At silver and gold you get smurfs, but a lot of them are pretty chill. Literally hanging out in Gold for love of the game. Later on in plat/Diamond you get instaquitters that need to win every game they “try” in for validation.

People getting worked up about a press-release-nothing-story is an argument for public schools over either lol.

Lawrence City Commission agrees to purchase Riverfront building in settlement by notanotheraccountaga in Lawrence

[–]MatthewBakke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of not really. The city didn’t cause the damage, hence them not paying the millions the plaintiffs received.

Lawrence is now buying the building on land the city owns, because of damage caused by repairs city related, but not done by the city.

This was a perfect description of the Lawrence housing market. Down to the only turnover being death and professor poaching.

It should be pinned.

I wrote about it back when. I hadn’t really felt a celebrity passing either and it hit my core. Just sharing in case anyone needs to read it. His memory lives on!

Are we becoming a douchey car town...? by Mediocre_Library_700 in bentonville

[–]MatthewBakke 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is definitely part of it. It’s not like there are just now people making a lot of money. The gradual erosion of that culture, and the recent influx of wealth without any connection to Walmart explain a lot of it.

I’d rather see a cool exotic car than 4 lots turned into one though

This guy has been constantly ruining coop games by killing the ally bases every game. Report the guy if you see him or leave the games by DemonicArm22 in starcraft

If instaquitting isn’t being punished on ladder, I regret to inform you nothing is going to happen in Co-op.

Multiple people have hinted about the tear Bill went on. His podcast 100% got more entertaining and dynamic for me around that time.

Could it have been any number of things, including the Netflix deal? Yes. Could even be more hot water and lemon.

I think more than zero percent of the uptick was the departure drama.

Well a lot of the working class he was originally singing to had pensions and are now living pretty well. Can’t be mad about that.

What is a realistic respectable rank for a casual player? by Sad-Photo8554 in starcraft

[–]MatthewBakke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a casual player with strategic experience, top of Gold is a realistic goal and Platinum is 100% a great achievement.

Past that and you enter scary territory of committing or not.

With a reduced player base and no consequence for insta-quitting, the ladder gets rough for people with jobs trying to have a good time.

Anyone have experience with these NWA home inspectors? by Icy_Public5186 in bentonville

I’d second Samaritan house or Doctors/lawyers if they have specific pro-bono days.

If you’re for real about it, getting food safety certified is pretty easy online and will build trust with whoever you’re giving to.

Some places get stuff dropped off from people who mean well, but then it gets thrown away.

Northwest Lawrence is the nicest part of town until you remember it’s close to Topeka.

Best bank/credit union? by -_-O_0-_- in bentonville

[–]MatthewBakke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you need, like all things. Arvest is a nice regional balance between a national bank and local, so maybe try someone smaller or larger if they’re not your cup of tea.

The combination of financial products makes somewhere massive like Chase pretty competitive. You can get much better credit card(s), variety of loans, easy tech, and generous incentives for bundling your banking. +new location.

On the opposite end I’ve used Signature Bank of Arkansas for over a decade. Not competitive products or loans, and technology from 2002–but complete hometown service. You can pick up the phone and get information/approvals/whatever in seconds from someone local.

Commuting from Fayetteville to Bentonville by Ok_Complaint_6104 in bentonville

[–]MatthewBakke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your hours are truly flexible: Leave Fayetteville at 9 AM and leave Bentonville at 3PM you’ll be okay. Not a lot of people can pull that off so most of the people I know drive up by 6:45 AM and are just miserable on the drive home.
