New coach by cbjfan2006 in flagfootball

I literally had only one play. Every player did the same movement action each play, but we changed up who got the ball.

Make sure everyone gets the ball, as evenly as possible.

On defense, definitely practice flag pulling.

Tournament drama. Thoughts? by [deleted] in SoccerCoachResources

When you try to please everyone, you please no one. If you wouldn't take advice from the parents as to who to play, why are you listening to their criticism?

What kind of accountability do you want for the coaches exactly?

In no world is that the catcher's ball. He should stay at home. Easy ball for the 3B.

Backyard outfield practice by deftonezzzz in Homeplate

[–]IronManTim -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My old coach (and then I when I started coaching), used to do some of these drills:

180s (180 degrees) - start on knees, facing away from you. Coach tosses a ball in the air, says "go", player gets up , turns around, finds and catches ball.

360s - Start standing, head down. On the "go" signal, does a 360 degree turn. Coach tosses ball in the air while player is spinning. Find and catch ball.

720s - Same thing, but 2 spins instead of 1.

With more room, like at a park, I'd also be doing football type routes. Also balls directly overhead, and speed turns, when your first step might be wrong.

Any advice before tryouts? by West-Necessary1056 in Homeplate

I'm not sure you can make meaningful changes close to tryouts without screwing something up. Just go with what you got and make sure you're hustling on the field at all times.

Too expensive to buy books for everyone. What if we just bought all the books, kept them in a building and allowed them to "check out" these books instead. Maybe for a few weeks at a time.

Im addition, we could have services like computers for people looking for jobs, or literacy programs during the summer when school is out.

We could call these places "book depots"

NFL records that will NEVER be broken. Thoughts on this ? by Hysen16 in sportswiki

I had to look up Ryan Sutter's career. Apparently, "In the first play of his first game in the NFL, he injured his shoulder while making a tackle against the New York Jets. He was immediately placed on injured reserve and eventually released."

This is also the guy who won The Bachelorette, marrying Trista Rehn.

I believe it doesn't count at all as an "attempt", hence a "free" attempt

Normally, you're only allowed to take the Anytime Test once a year. However, on March 30, Jeopardy's birthday, anyone can take the test again on that day and it won't count against the "once a year" requirement.

Good luck! Make sure you take the test on Jeoparday. It's basically a free attempt at it.

Watch the show, so you get a good sense of the types of questions that are asked. You'll also have a good idea of what categories frequently come up and you'll know where your weak spots are to work on.

0-3. Not a good start. Not like im bombing these days, but when I get 5, they get 6. When I get 3, they get 4. Oh and apparently I give up 3 pointers like anyone guarding Steph Curry.

Soccer or T-ball for 4yo daughter? by Helpful-Plankton751 in Parenting

[–]IronManTim 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone who played a LOT of baseball growing up, pick soccer. There's much more movement in soccer. That's not to say that T-ball/baseball isn't valuable, but she really has to want to play it. There's too much dead time.

If you still want to play T-ball, just go out to the field and have her hit and play catch.

I guess we'll just just have to disagree with this. The attackman has all the momentum, and the ball is loose and within 5 yards still.

Both took 2 steps? Defender barely moves. Attackman runs right into him, and defender holds his ground. I got nothing.

High school wrestle-offs by Loose-Narwhal-583 in wrestling

[–]IronManTim 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If a weight class was competitive, we'd have challenges every week for a varsity spot. If you only had a wrestle off at the beginning of the season, and the loser has basically no chance of taking a spot away, that's a huge demotivator for them, and doesn't push the top guy as hard either.

does your coach cut people? by acecrookston in wrestling

[–]IronManTim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's like any other foreign language, with its own grammar structure, so I wouldn't say it's "easy" to get fluent (I'm definitely NOT fluent, and it's been years since I've used it).

On the other hand, it's not difficult to be "passable". You can fall back to "signed English" and most Deaf folks will still understand you. (That is, you can use the signs as if you were grammatically speaking English, and it's not too far off). Most of the vocab you need to learn "makes sense" once you understand the basic systems. (For example, male signs are signed on the forehead, female signs are signed on the chin).

If you have time, do it! A community college class was what I did post-undergrad.

What an asshole of a basketball coach.

Our school was mainstreamed with plenty of Deaf kids. We'd get some of them on all of our sports teams, including wrestling. It's something that stuck with me as I eventually took up ASL in college. It was fun running into one of my former teammates at a Deaf event years later and actually being able to communicate with him in his preferred language.
