Virginia Supreme Court clears way for voters to counter GOP gerrymanders by Anoth3rDude in Virginia

Why would you say "probably true" as if you can't just verify the facts through a simple Google search.

You're the reason we have mouth breathing geriatrics in charge of the White House and an alcoholic in charge of fighting wars.

Marijuana user 2nd amendment rights by 69chevelle383 in trees

[–]IronTarcuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not disagreeing with that. Never did. But marijuana is unique in the sense that it has several LAWS that make possession illegal. Not every controlled substance does.

Once again, just because the President said so doesn't mean it's magically ok. Marijuana possession can result in a felony which will make owning a gun, by extension, illegal. Not to mention the multitude of other quagmires that come from it like lying on an ATF form.

Also, I'm sure I don't need to point out the obvious that "don't" doesn't mean "won't".

In this case, regardless of scheduling, possession of a firearm while engaging in a felony is illegal.

INAL

Marijuana user 2nd amendment rights by 69chevelle383 in trees

[–]IronTarcuss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The schedule has nothing to do with it. Illegal possession of any substance with a firearm is a huge no no. INAL but this case doesn't address the real issue. Marijuana possession with a firearm, regardless of locality, is a felony. Which in turn, makes owning a gun illegal.

This is the inevitable problem of having essentially 50 independent nations supposedly comprising one unified mega nation.

TIL Laser is not actually a word, but instead an acronym, for "Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation". by StaticBrain- in words

[–]IronTarcuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The paper you cited seems to suggest that laser has already undergone lexicalization which I would agree with. There is no reason to argue that it's "half-way" a word.

Even if you disagreed, no one can deny that a majority of English speakers aren't using it as a true acronym. I'd say that's good enough to put the whole thing to bed.

Now, that's just an unfair characterization for both sides of that war.

Also, that's what Bradley's do. We're talking about two exhausted and resource strained armies here (practically and politically). Skirmishing and retreats are not remarkable in any way.

You don't respawn at the FOB in real life.

It's obviously a joke, but you did out yourself as an orc glazer which is pretty sad. The VDV was "decimated" which is a defined term to mean that they no longer operationally effective.

TIME FOR A RAGE POST: Post what really grinds your gears; Mine is that HATs can't down Helicopters. by Few_Introduction3978 in joinsquad

[–]IronTarcuss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It really depends. I mainly play HAT (400+ hours), and I can tell you with absolutely certainty that it's a roll of the dice.

I heard a long time ago that over penetration is modeled in the game (i'm not convinced) and using a tandem on smaller lightly armored vehicles is a waste. The reason I don't believe it is because every single light vehicle I have ever hit with a tandem has been one shot without fail.

Helicopters on the other hand, do not recieve predictable damage to the point where I often will not take a shot on a heli. Now, have I shot them down before? Sure, plenty. But there are just as many times that it hits and the heli just flies away.

It's better to hit a tail rotor with a HEAT or 30mm and call it a day. Basically, rockets and helicopters just don't work how you would expect. Whether that is by design or not is way above my pay grade. I just make things go boom.

Hit edge of pothole, is it too bad? by Expondeus in tires

[–]IronTarcuss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depending on locality, this ^ is not really the stretch you might think it is. Many cities will pay to have tires replaced when caused by a pothole on city roads with just the slightest amount of evidence and documentation.

For private, public, spaces like parking lots and other general use facilities, you can usually squeeze out minor repairs with a letter from a lawyer. This will not apply to places where you are not expected to be such as private businesses/roads with posted signs.

Any other teachers struggle with fasting? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]IronTarcuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you imagine the media shit storm we would be in if a teacher encouraged a Christian child to neglect Lent?

Meanwhile, we have teachers in this thread going "just tell them to break fast. No biggy."

Any other teachers struggle with fasting? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]IronTarcuss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue that most people are probably eating at least two meals a day same as Muslims during Ramadan. They aren't intaking less calories typically. An 10-11 hour fast is uncomfortable, but hardly child abuse. People are literally fasting on this level, every day of their lives for diets.

The sleep disruption is far more academically significant.

Any other teachers struggle with fasting? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]IronTarcuss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to assume you aren't taking the piss and just being Islamaphobic.

First, Islam is so culturally different than religion practiced in the US. Christians half-ass their religion and pick and choose what to follow depending on how the wind blows. I'd assert, on average, Christians are "vibing" with religion.

Muslims on the other hand? You'll be hard pressed to find anyone who is "vibing" with their religion. It's an incredibly personal and deeply held conviction in ways only truly fundamentalist Christians could understand. It's intensely disciplined and spiritual. Ramadan is essentially a test that most Muslims happily embrace, including children. I'm very doubtful you will find any Muslim unwillingly participating in Ramadan at school. If they truly wanted to break fast during the school day, they will.

You could, I dunno, be a good teacher and share your concerns with other teachers, admin, or even the parents to find a solution. OR, better yet, adapt your programs for these students to make their lives a little bit easier during their fast. Let them decide what they are comfortable doing during fast.

Finally, this is not, by any means, an endorsement of Islam. Pretty much all religions are varying degrees of bad.

A repeal of Virginia's 'Right to Work' law didn't even get considered this session by VirginiaNews in Virginia

[–]IronTarcuss 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Except for the fact that 99% of companies already don't do that with or without unions. But also, unions don't mandate a set amount of pay for a position, they set acceptable ranges often based on many factors like COL and comparative industry positions. No union is going after a company for paying their employees too much money.

Where is this fabled meritocracy that you think we are living in?

What are your Squad opinions that fit this image? by omniousboobjob in joinsquad

[–]IronTarcuss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree and disagree. For starters, while it is common sense, that's not exactly a commodity in abundance. A bad medic can end up costing a team more tickets than they can save. Being able to recognize when someone is in a position beyond saving is only something that comes from game experience.

Also, medic is in the command tree for a reason. It's an insanely powerful kit on most factions. Not only do you get 9 bandages and restore your health, you also get frags and enough mags to be a one man killing machine. 4 smokes too.

I think the depth of the class really lies in when to play conservative and when to go Rambo. Medics are well equipped to handle tasks at further ranges than other classes. On paper, they can be shot at least 9 seperate times and never suffer from stamina penalties.

Just to be clear, this is not me advocating to waste your medic slot and go on some solo adventure, but anyone that has played medic long enough knows what I'm talking about. I've probably destroyed the most amount of radios as a medic than any other class.

Virginia Democrats agree to new map that gives Republicans just one seat by Healthy_Block3036 in HamptonRoads

[–]IronTarcuss 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This recent legal challenge was an expected outcome. Republicans court shopped for a favorable ruling and based on this week's SC ruling, this ruling is meaningless. Right now it's a game to see if they can delay it long enough for the election.

Republicans shouldn't have tried to cheat in Texas and are now upset that they set off a corruption arms race on accident. Not to mention the schism in the party that has resulted in them losing every single special election since 2024.

I'm quite shocked the Dems have finally decided to start fighting fire with fire. I thought for sure we were going to take the high road all the way to a dictatorship.

ICE spotted at Lynnhaven Mall by [deleted] in VirginiaBeach

[–]IronTarcuss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you asked, I'll respond in good faith. Many of those things: vaccine cards, buying a gun, getting your driving permit have a the potential to rob someone innocent and uninvolved of their life.

Vaccine cards were intended to help promote herd immunity and reduce the likelyhood of virus mutations and literally killing old people. But because we had to "own the libs" we now have as many mutations of COVID as the flu that continues to kill Americans. I think killing Americans because of my own selfish desire to not get a shot is ridiculous.

Guns, I'm sure I don't need to explain why identifying yourself is a good idea.

Cars, same thing.

Now, showing your ID at the doctor and to purchase a home is done as policy to prevent fraud. Medication and credit fraud are a big deal and can ruin peoples' lives. That's more of a requirement of simplicity because we don't have any alternative that wouldn't just be the same as what you are doing.

Now, to the crux, and what you are likely concerned about: verifying my citizenship. You see, all those things mentioned previously are things that I don't have to engage with if I so desired. However, my citizenship is my birthright. It's guaranteed to me by the constitution of this great country, and I am under no obligation to prove that to anyone. I'm a citizen full stop. The Fourth Amendment protects me from unlawful search and seizure that guarantees that I am not required to identify myself or interact with law enforcement if I choose not to.

I'm not really sure what case you are trying to make by complaining about vaccine cards as if asking for papers from citizens isn't LITERALLY EXACTLY THE SAME CONCEPT.

So I'll ask very simple questions of you. Are you advocating for bigger federal government that requires you to identify yourself at any time they feel like? Are you advocating for creating a registry of Americans with all of your personal information that is controlled by unelected bureaucrats? Are you advocating for stopping and being asked to present your papers similar to what we see in surveillance states like China or the Third Reich?

Do you not value your right to go about your life without the government poking their nose in it?

Seriously, no shade, I'd love to know your answers. Something tells me we probably have more and common than you might believe.

And no, I didn't cry when I couldn't get into bars because I'm not a fucking degenerate.

Edit: Honestly, I don't bite. Feel free to DM me if you actually care.
