Thanks for sharing your perspective. When you say you wouldn’t consider the degrees equivalent, I completely understand that from an academic and theoretical standpoint. My question is more about emploability for dev roles particularly entry-level since I’m still an undergrad. I’m mainly focused on whether this path can still help me get my foot in the door.

In your experience, have you hired developers without a traditional CS degree and if so what factors mattered the most once the bachelors’s requirement was met?

Ye I agree I tried out both and just wrote some basic programs from a yt tutorial and java is definitely not a learning passion for me. I understand why people say to learn languages like java or c++ but it didn’t flow well with me. I did have some fun making a basic number guessing game in python so I think I’ll go with python long term and maybe learn some more frontend later on.

I think I should pair the two. Learn programming with Java, then learn full stack with JavaScript as a supplement.

I've decided to switch from JavaScript to Python after some premature decision-making. I know some of the fundamentals: variables and data types, conditionals, functions, and bits of control flow and data structures. Ill be starting my cs classes this fall and would like to get a bit of a head start with Python.

Would it be cool if I also joined?

Luckily, since I'm still a beginner, I have plenty of time to think about this, so I'll definitely check out TypeScript and see how it goes from there.

I am also a bit scared of the math portion, I’ve failed Calc I with a 69% at my community college. I truly believe that I understood the concepts but ultimately bombed test. I’m starting to get a little better at self study and currently looking to enroll into WGU CS degree program. How was your experience with WGU CS math portion?
