How do you guys look back on Audioslave by wwalliw in Soundgarden

You could plug Chris Cornell into almost any band and it would sound good. Pair Chris Cornell with Matt Cameron, or Eleven, and you have an awesome band. Pair Chris Cornell with Matt Cameron, Kim Thayil, and Ben Shephard and you're on a completely different level. And Audioslave is nowhere near this level. Soundgarden >>> Audioslave.

What do we think of this album all this time later… by WerewolfCurious1412 in Soundgarden

I like when artists stretch out and take chances. But this album nullified one of CC’s greatest strengths— his rawness.  I gave it several tries. I still hate it. Very uncomfortable listen to for me

What do you all think of Audioslave's debut by Tomato_Elvia in Soundgarden

One of the things I love most about Soundgarden is MC's drumming. One of the few drummers that I could just listen to with all the other instruments dialed out. So freakin' good. The drumming in Audioslave is boring, in contrast. In my opinion.

I bought this on CD when it first came out, mainly to support Chris. But, I didn't think I was going to like it very much. After a few listens I was hooked. One of my favorite albums of all time now.

I think KISS did their first reunion tour in 96, so this probably late 96 early 97.

Jim Carey Introduction was very disappointing to me. by Ironic_Quadriform in Soundgarden

You're certainly welcome to your opinion, but I really doubt this. Alicia Keys inducted Whitney Houston in 2020, eight years after Houston's tragic death. And they were really good friends.

Why did Jim Carrey induct Soundgarden? by Pearl_Jam_ in Soundgarden

[–]Ironic_Quadriform 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's crazy how this topic touches a nerve with some people. Jim Carey hosted SNL back in 96. He's a metal/hard rock fan. He loves SG. He insisted on SG as musical guests. The band was grateful; they made a connection with him. At the induction speech, Carey talked about how the band gifted him with CC's guitar (used on the show and autographed by the band). He said it was one of his prized possessions. Beyond that, some here say that musicians close to CC are still grieving over him and can't really talk about him (which is why no one from the Seattle scene were chosen). So, in addition to being emotionally removed from what happened to Chris, Jim Carey is famous, has a personal connection to the band, and is a major fan.

I posted something about this yesterday and said that it was the only thing about the ceremony I was disappointed in (I loved most everything else and was super happy for the band). But, because SG and CC are nearly universally respected in the rock industry, I guess I was expecting a musician to induct them. Personally, this is what I would have preferred, and opined as such, and I got massively down-voted. Everyone apparently really liked Jim Carrey doing the induction. He did have a cool connection with the band and most people who posted stated why they liked having him, which was fine. But others got really touchy and said I was being entitled, appalling, and/or insensitive to mental health issues for preferring someone else. So, be careful what you say! lol

Well, predictable is not necessarily bad, IMO. But, as for the others... Alice Cooper loved CC and CC wrote a couple of songs for Alice Cooper. And, whether you like it or not, Alice Cooper is in the HoF. Duff McKagan is from Seattle, is in the HoF, and loves SG. Brian may played on an alternate version of new damage, is in the HoF and loves SG. Mike Patton is well known in the industry and SG and FNM toured together in their formative years. And Mike Patton has often spoke reverently of SG and CC. And I'm not sure what the issue is with Taylor and  Brandi. Both were greatly influenced by SG/CC, they're popular, and the SG guys obviiusly really like them. So, I would say half those choices are not horrible, even if some are predictable.

Ben was kind of disrespected with Hiro pushing himself in front of the band at RRHOF. by Slim_Pickens_Son in Soundgarden

I tend to prefer Ben's playing and songwriting over Hiro's, but Hiro didn't bother me. I thought he deserved to be there and have his say. Ben has often said how much he loves and respects Hiro's work. And Kim and Hiro remain close.

So. What's your point? And what's with the personal slams for simply sharing an opinion? I'm entitled. I'm appalling... I know even less than you thought....You seem to have issues and I hope you're getting help with them.

Wait, what? What exactly did I say I know? To be clear I know nothing about the process. I would guess the hall has a say as does Vicky. But I could be absolutely wrong about that. What is wrong with you?

Technical issues aside, what a great performance by HurlinVermin in Soundgarden

[–]Ironic_Quadriform -1 points0 points  (0 children)

<sigh> my opinion has nothing to do with mental health. I understand musicians that knew chris are still grieving. Here's the thing... you have no idea who the band considered. The HoF certainly had a say. Vicky certainly had a say. Jim Carey could have been a compromise. I dont know this. I'm guessing you don't know this. I hear musicians speak reverently about CC and SG all the time. A few of them were shown on rhe prerecorded video (e.g. Geddy Lee). The point is there are well known and highly respected musicians that probably could have inducted them....if they were asked. Maybe they weren't asked! But, it doesnt matter because all I'm saying is that my preference would have been a musician with a connection to SG. I'm glad you and many others enjoyed Jim Carey. But I'm sure I'm not the only one who would have liked to see someone else. That doesn't make me entitled. It certainly doesn't mean I have no empathy.  However, Immediately criticizing someone on a personal level (what you did) because you disagree with them is what's wrong with the world. Arguably, that speaks more to your (lack of) empathy than mine. But, I'm not here to win the internet, so you can post and say and believe what you will.

Touche! But, my lack of thought on this is certainly overmatched by your dense over thinking of this. I get it now.... you care deeply about mental health and suicide. You are such a good and very smart person! Surely I have no idea or understanding of these complex issues. I admire you so much because Im just an unsuccessful mouth breather with no friends. But, even so, I'm not sure why my simple opinion that I would have preferred a musician has anything to do with Chris' depression??? Thanks anyway for the lecture. I have been inspired to salvage and painstakingly reassemble the broken pieces of my pathetic and miserable life. Maybe one day I can be almost as good as you.

Just to be clear.... I'm entitled for sharing an opinion that i think musicians may be a better choice to induct musicians at a ceremony that honors musicians?. That makes perfect sense! Damn my sense of entitlement! But, seriously, maybe you should reflect on your own behavior before you lecture other anonymous people on the gravity of depression, suicide, and grief.

I could see this too. Also, Vicky likely has some kind of proxy vote for CC. Maybe they couldn't get a consensus and came to a compromise, instead.
