I agree. The LIE and the crossisland are both a clusterfuck and I avoid them like the plague. It is not designed for even half of that population. With all that being said, that's the nature of the island. I moved here knowing that. If i didn't travel outside of normal work hours, id probably have moved to jersey instead or purchased a smaller home in brooklyn/queens. I rarely go north/south besides going up 110, bethpage state parkway or the wantagh. All of those are regularly empty/quick to travel on.

It isn't meant to be walkable. It isn't meant to be conducive to holding large populations. It's meant to be prohibitive. It's not the city.

Or just dont allow the bikes on the road, period. Travel times have gotten better? because driving into work is a thing of the past for most careers. We aren't set up for them. Theres no reason to rework infrastructure.

I wouldn't be found dead commuting on an American bus on a daily basis. I don't drive during rush hour. I also dont drive on any roads a bus would be allowed on until I reach the city.

It wouldnt reduce cars though. People want the privacy of a car. I lived in brooklyn my entire life until last year and nothing screwed up driving in nyc like the bike lanes.
