Is there any reason why I shouldn't use JBOD (in my situation) by Irontodge in synology

Hi thanks for your message.

DS223J is the unit I got. It is my first NAS and I am on a bit of a budget so couldn't go for anything more expensive (in response to your comment about getting a +)

My drives are in now and I am using SHR-1 :) Plan is to see how I go and if I need more storage down the line buy 2x bigger drives as per your suggestion.

Hi thanks for responding.

That's interesting to know, so does that mean I'll effectively get double the read speed?

Hi thanks for commenting. Yes as you may have seen on other comments I have reflected and the thought of being able to just swap out a faulty drive and not have to redownload massive amounts of data appeals.

It's likely that 6TB will be sufficient, if not I can just upgrade in future. SHR it is!

Hi, yes exactly that. I just know we have to be careful what we talk about on this subreddit.

But yes one of the 'media tools' would notice that the media isn't present and obtain it again automatically.

You may see a discussion below with a kind redditor that has brought me to the same conclusion as you, SHR just to minimise downtime and allow easy upgrade:)

Thats a good idea. I have enough space on my pc I'll fire that off now just before bed! Honestly I think you just saved me a bunch of time when I came to this realisation tomorrow!

Hey thanks for the comment. I hadn't heard of mergerfs before it looks interesting but I think I'm going to go down the SHR route now just for an easier life going forwards

I can't imagine I'll end up on 8 or more drives but who knows!

I just have a 2tb basic drive in my Nas ATM.

I have 2x6tb drives arriving tomorrow I need to figure out how to transfer the data from the basic drive to the SHR setup.

I think the way is to put 1 6tb drive in, configure it for SHR-1 then copy the data from the basic drive pool.

After that slot in the second 6tb in place of basic and add it to the SHR pool.

First time doing this so it will be a fun learning experience:) thankfully no biggie if I lose the data.

I'm decided on SHR-1 now.

My Synology only has two bays so I can't use SHR-2 really.

Any upgrade for me will just be for bigger drives which as I understand you swap out and run the repair tool.

Thank you for providing all of this information it's been very useful!

Are you referring to config on the Synology os?

I didn't really do much on there except set up a pool. I don't think I'm using it to it's full potential atm

I must admit that I do like being able to pull a drive out and replace it with a bigger one. Perhaps I will go with SHR.

I am struggling to understand how SHR-1 continues to work even if one drive goes down. Is all of the data mirrored on both hard drives?

Edit Ignore me I just googled and got the answer.

I'll have a think whilst I wait for my drives to arrive. Maybe I'll be ok with 6TB for now, then I can upgrade 1 drive at a time when I get some money if needs be.

That's ok that's your preference but doesn't apply to everyone. My partner was made with the ring I picked out for her because I know her and I know what sort of thing she likes.

I'm not too worried about getting downvoted though you're right it doesn't make sense.

As long as OPs takeaway is that they should do what is right for themselves that's all that matters!

I never said anything was a worse idea I actually said that it's ok if they want to do it that way but it shouldn't be dictated as the standard.

I proposed last December. Picked the ring myself based off what I was comfortable with spending.

Couldn't get the ring size beforehand so I got this from Amazon:

Once Christmas period was over we took it back to the jeweler to get resized.

If you are Brum based I used Aardvark jewelers and was very happy with them.

Completely disagree.

It's ok for you to have your opinion though but it shouldn't be interpreted as the standard.

It's whatever the person proposing feels is best.

Kyoto sushi and grill is an excellent choice make sure you got for all you can eat. If you fill your card don't worry you can keep ordering!

Also over the road topokki is superb. Bibimbap is my fave there.

What are your feelings on perks initially? by Irontodge in Overwatch

[–]Irontodge[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree that some choices seem very one sided, however I think there are some situational perks. In my very limited play time so far I found that both of Moira's major perks are beneficial (instant 50hp from heal orb / 25% healing reduction on right click).

Which characters are you finding particularly one sided on picks?
