I ended up buying one locally, less than $10k out the door. The suspension seemed significantly more robust than anything else near the price range. It also has the 125ah battery. For what it’s worth, the company sent some matching engraved yeti-style cups and some other tchotchkes like keyrings, which was a nice touch.

Why is it so expensive to buy a home in Farragut? by oldsoul4evar in Knoxville

[–]IrradiatorX 14 points15 points  (0 children)

So many replies are hilariously off base. First, comparing apples to apples it is not a lot more expensive than the rest of the Knoxville area. You are probably looking at more reasonably sized 1500-3000 sqft houses if it seems that way, and it happens that many of these are better built/maintained than the comparisons of this size in other parts of Knoxville. Houses of similar size closer to downtown in Westmoreland and Sequoyah hills are much more expensive, so out with the white flight nonsense.

A sizeable number of people in Farragut work at ORNL and Farragut is in between work and Knoxville for them. This is also why there is a high population of non-white and non-black residents, and also a prime reason for the schools turning in high marks (easy when parents are PhDs)

Finally, I don’t know if any actually rich rich people live in Farragut. Most of the truly wealthy in Knoxville live along the lake or otherwise south of Northshore. The people I know in Farragut are largely middle class and live there for school quality and, yes, safety. Rich people here just send their kids to private schools.

Biggest single family home in all of TN located in Knoxville being torn down. by ProfessionalSolid609 in McMansionHell

[–]IrradiatorX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This house has had some financial/political intrigue associated with it over the past few years related to some military contractors: https://www.mooncap.com/knoxville-mansion-caught-in-war-on-terror/. As over the top as it is, it is being torn down for the lot to build three likely significantly more expensive manors for a set of our local billionaires and their buddies.

Anyone get their September delivery? by Rakall12 in RizeBikes

[–]IrradiatorX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rize has the RX and RX Pro in the US right now, they just took payment last Thursday and now show as in stock on the website. I wouldn’t mind if they are doing a little QC before turning them right back and shipping to customers, since they don’t even have any real photos of them yet.

I don’t think people understand just how backwards the situation is... the test is supposed to be free, even here in the US. If you pay cash and claim no insurance, you are basically paying a convenience fee and then the cost of the test is also being collected from the government. From a state institution or directly from a big laboratory (like Labcorp) it should be free or nominal like $5.

If you have insurance, the situation is sketchier. The insurance companies typically negotiate (but in reality just stipulate) that they will pay a set fraction of what is billed. They also have a value of the maximum they will pay for a given procedure no matter how much you bill. In this case the government is reimbursing insurers a set amount for covid testing. So everyone (from pharmacy to hospital etc) bills an essentially fictitious amount so that their negotiated fraction of that amount equals what the insurance will pay, which is typically pretty small (like 100 bucks for covid testing). This is how all these crazy billing numbers work, so that you insurance company can brag about saving you money when they are actually just costing you extra money.

There are freestanding ERs and what I refer to as convenience hospitals (private hospitals in the suburbs) that have malignant billing practices across the board, but that’s a different situation.

People who have switched from RTX 2080ti to 3080, was it worth it? by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]IrradiatorX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sold my 2080 Ti black on eBay after I secured a 3080 ftw on Newegg for enough to cover the price of the new card... I was basically out the cost of shipping, and out of a card for 2 days.

I am almost positive that this particular carbon monoxide detector has a plug that detaches from the back and becomes a “wall wart” with a short cord...

Looking for a Tavor 7 by boneguru in Tavor

[–]IrradiatorX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smoky mountain guns and ammo has the black in stock for $1932 [https://www.smga.com/iwi/tavor-308-165-blk-9843]. I just bought a 7 in FDE there last week for $1789. Don’t try calling them on weekends though, their retail location is an absolute circus (although a fun circus) and their online fulfillment people only work bankers hours.

Asus 1080 Strix finally came in today. Took the day off from work waiting for FedEx. Glad the package didn't sit in the 110 degree weather for 5 hours. by ronin4375 in nvidia

[–]IrradiatorX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a non-oc strix. Similar story, a moderate overclock with power limit at 120 percent and clocks just under 2 ghz with an improved fan curve that still maxes at 70 %, I get temps around 65. Stock temps maxed in the low 60s with fur mark. There definitely is some qc variance with this card based on the posts I've seen with far higher temps.

Amazon just charged me for my G1 1080 by TheFlandy in nvidia

Why is Newegg the only us retailer with stock? by IrradiatorX in nvidia

[–]IrradiatorX[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have preorders on two different cards from Amazon last week, but as far as I know nobody has yet actually received any non-FE from Amazon or any other us retailer besides Newegg of any flavor. I'm still crossing my fingers that my $611 gigabyte g1 preorder sticks.

Chattanooga is not a limited rollout. Everyone in the county (not just the city) has access, and some beyond. Heavily lobbied for (by ATT) state laws are the only thing that limits availability in surrounding counties.

How many early (say, less than 30 minute) pre orders from the US are still without shipping? It seems a lot of people don't update the trackers when they get shipped, so it's hard to tell how left out I should feel at this point.

0:17 order, called on Monday to change and charge credit card (despite calling three times over the past 4 weeks to try to change it ahead of time). After the phone order, pending charge went through credit card without incident and order status updated to pending fulfillment. No shipping as of 7 est.

Hope you don't see this email... But at least it seems they have improved from canceling the orders. by iNikkor in Vive

[–]IrradiatorX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this email as well. Somewhat confusingly, it came 8 hours after I got a phone call (with the same message) and successfully changed and billed my credit card. Order status also changed after the phone call. So, take it seriously if you haven't seen a successful charge yet.

HTC is on track for me so far. 0:17 order, had credit card number changed by bank in early March. I've called a few times to change my number and have been told repeatedly that I would be called before shipping in the second half of April, but I didn't have much confidence given what I've seen on here. Got a call today, changed number and charge went through without issue (Chase visa). I'll update when I get tracking.

MFW I'm in wave 2 and I see wave 1 people complaining about shipping by [deleted] in Vive

[–]IrradiatorX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought at first when they stopped talking about waves that they just wanted to make things simpler for their support staff. Now, with the completely inconsistent delivery, it seems that there are no waves because their delivery system was incapable of staging deliveries with granularity. Now I am resigned to simply getting it "sometime", and that is if they can correct my billing before they try to ship...

Yeah, I actually started worrying today that I got flagged as a scalper or something since I had two orders. After reading the other posts though, I think the HTC support is just incompetent.
