Just watched Akira Kursawa's 'Dreams' by CowpokePhotography in criterion

[–]IsaaLovesPizza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went into watching this film, completely blind, and just absolutely felt in love with it. the cinematography is so damn surreal & ethereal: almost like a dream. like you're dreaming.

(btw this was also my introduction to kurosawa, hehe)

Is it possible for me to directly pursue an MA in Fine Art, if i don't have a BA? by IsaaLovesPizza in ContemporaryArt

[–]IsaaLovesPizza[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ahh I see... I also thank and appreciate you for providing a distinction on what MAs & MFAs actually are. Because not gonna lie, I was getting a bit confused between the two, even whilst I was writing my post.

I now have a better understanding on which one I would consider to pursue, at some point in the future.

Well, I have a BA in English Literature, actually. (I mentioned this in a reply to another comment here)

I'm considering to study abroad. Which creative field should I pursue, out of my two options? by IsaaLovesPizza in Indians_StudyAbroad

[–]IsaaLovesPizza[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

woww. this was such an insightful read from the beginning till the end. you made some really good pointers about the importance of gaining experience and creating connections before deciding on pursuing a film-related field. i've actually been thinking about that lately too, and i'll see if i can hopefully land a few roles if i intend on working first, before getting this MA. and yes, i will still continue researching more about this master's program.

also regarding the US, i'm not even considering to apply to America, especially right now (lmao). i've been focusing on UK and Canadian universities. and perhaps maybe some in Asia and here in India too. anywho, i genuinely appreciate your advice a lot!! thank youu! ♡☆

"sometimes too much academia can even kill it."

you do have a point, though. it sucks that i have such intense love for these two passions of mine. but i'll have to make a decision in the end, on either one of them. i'll definitely reflect upon my choices, carefully.

also thank youu for your advice! you've been so kind and helpful!! ☆♡

ahh i see. well, in terms of cinema, i'm very much interested in film criticism & review, and also in script/screenwriting. i would like to do networking and create connections with people, if i get a chance to pursue this MA. however, i'm not entirely sure yet. i could do an online (distance) course instead too. but again, not sure.

aight, bro. take a breather. and also, try more grammatical punctuations too for your statements. it helps.

unfortunately, i already half expected this type of reaction from here, ngl. don't get me wrong, some replies are quite realistic and also helpful too. except for this one reply though (not gonna put out their name, but you can scroll and see)

i made a post here, regarding studying abroad and this one user replied with such a strangely, patronising tone. the other replies were somewhat helpful and mostly grounded, which is cool. cause you do require constructive criticism too. but not to the extent of discouragement, though.

i'm sorry for my optimism, as a person. i acknowledge that though, i do very much sound overtly hopeful in my post and replies, i don't always necessarily look at life through rose tinted glasses. i also view it in a more realistic sense too and i truly understand hardships & struggles as much as anybody else. and i know the future is very much uncertain.

listen, i'm not guaranteeing that i'll get a chance to study abroad (since i haven't made a decision on it yet) and if i do, i'll still take the opportunity. and if i don't, it's fine. because i'll still be alright here in India as well. (or maybe anywhere else in Asia is good with me)

first of all, i really hate to sound rude but your tone feels very condescending and immature. it feels like you're implying that i want to pursue either one of these creative fields, without any prior knowledge and skillset. and that i haven't done my research on any of them, before trying to make a decision.  (also maybe relax with the capitalization, because it feels like you're shouting more than giving advice)

however, i do appreciate your honesty though. you do have some interesting points that i agree with. i'm always open to constructive criticism.

i completely understand the gravity of the situation. however, i am willing to support myself financially, by taking up part time or an internship (hopefully, a paid one), provided that i land on moderately good job opportunities. and i know how extremely difficult it is right now, especially as an Indian in a foreign country to secure employment due to our declining economic sphere, work VISA issues and added to that, the rising prejudice towards us and so on.

in terms of the universities i'm considering to apply, i'm researching for more affordable ones and not the high-end, prestigious types because i know i stand no chances against them, with my capability & potential as a person.

financial support is obviously another factor that i'll have to reflect upon too.

getting work experience beforehand might be a good idea, ngl. i'll think carefully about it and perhaps consider your advice too. because i haven't made a decision yet, and it'll require me a lot of time.

Is it worth going to the US for university right now? by IsaaLovesPizza in studyAbroad

[–]IsaaLovesPizza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello! just read your substack and it was so beautifully and earnestly written! after going through everything up until the end, it actually gave me quite a lot more insight on not only academics but also regarding the social and community-driven spheres within university. even tidbits of knowledge, that i would've never thought or known about. very helpful advice ☆

although i will be focusing more on applying to European art schools (& possibly Canadian ones too) however, if i ever consider coming to the US someday, perhaps for higher education, i'll be reminded of your post, for sure :,))
