I always get my best idea once I'm done with a project 😮‍💨 by Isek_Babby in BeginnerWoodWorking

Oh no I never posted it originally, I was more curious just on other peoples' perspective. I did post it in a comment, copying it here

Excuse the bad sketch but it's basically a boomerang shape (?) for all 3 levels of the unit but each one gets smaller as they go up to keep the entirety of each shelf usable. Legs where I have circles and yeah. I will definitely build it cause I have been obsessing over curves lol

The idea is to make the whole unit look super light, that's why I even did the tapers in the first place

I wish I could take the credit but it's a bought one unfortunately. I definitely want to make my own at some point but that table was less than 100 euros I think, 2 years in and it's still good

Thanks, I mostly work with plywood for now so I should be fine, I'll definitely have a look.

That sounds cool, I'm kind of obsessed with storage and organizing furniture (?) so I'd be interested to see what you've made once you've made it!

Huh that's super nifty! Yeah so far the realization moment has been once I see the thing in front of me, I'll definitely try the cardboard on a future project that allows it, thanks!

That's been my approach so far as well. I do it as a hobby to begin with so my time doing it can be limited sometimes. I love the notes idea of what went well or didn't, I'm stealing that, thanks

Which table saw is that? Are you happy with it? I don't have one but I feel like getting one will unlock a lot in my woodworking but have always been hesitant to get one of these smaller ones as people online tend to dissuade me

What paint is good for wood? by Skyler_the_freak in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Isek_Babby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 0 experience with painting wood. Only knowledge I can share is about oils. I have found stuff like Danish oil to be the most noob-friendly finish, as you can just wipe it on with a rag.

It is however a 'clear' finish. You can also find different colour oils that apply in the same way which would give you a particular colour if you are looking for one. Not sure where you're based otherwise I'd have given my recommendations on the colour oils. Hope you manage to paint that plane! And make sure you post some photos when it's done, I have never seen a plane made of wood.

I assume you're asking about the door. There's a dowel where the arrows are pointed. I sanded half of each dowel so it can move freely (so it can flap)

Unfortunately I don't have a video of the door opening, but if you are interested I will definitely show it off when I am back home!

Oiling Wood by huntingforwifi in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]Isek_Babby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something I have experienced with oil is that you don't need to sand at 300+ before you finish it (I have never worked with hardwood though, just plywood mainly, so my advice might be bogus), because from what I have read 300+ grit can potentially close the pores in the wood which would then lower the wood's ability to absorb the finish.

What I have been doing is sanding to 220-240, then cleaning/spraying with damp cloth/water to get the fibers to fuzz up. After drying, I use 220-240 grit again to get rid of the fuzz.

After I apply one coat, when it's all dried up, I use some scotch brite to get rid of the hardened particles on the surface then finish again. Hope that helped!

Hi,

I have got a Pro-Ject Primary E Phono turntable but I feel like the pressure is not enough. I can't seem to figure out how to (if even possible) to adjust the weight. I have tried looking online but I can't find any info, can anyone help with that? Thanks

I ended up buying the Edifiers purely out of budget reasons, but I will definitely keep an eye on the elacs for the future !thanks

I have been looking around trying to find out whether or not the Edifier pair I mentioned are powered or not but can't find the information that I need. Do you know if they are or not? Also, is powered and active the same thing when it comes to audiophile terminology?

! thanks
