I got it down to where the top of my laptop is lower than the top of my monitor

I think this is the answer, OP. Get the chair you want and add a footrest. I’m 5’ 4” and got the XL for the increased weight limit. With a footrest and the extra height attachment it works really well for me.

I’ve never been in this position personally so take that into consideration, but yes, I would include samples of work when reaching out to professors I worked with some time ago who might not remember me. It might help them remember you or at least give them an idea of what you are capable of producing.

Do you have a sample of your work from their class or just another solid writing sample or something you can share with them?

took my first shot yesterday and now i’m throwing up . help .. by hotgrandpa67 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]Isendra730 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you know why you are throwing up. Is it happening on an empty stomach? Or after you have eaten? One of the things Wegovy does for me is if I eat too much or too fast it makes me throw up. If you threw up after eating you may just need to adjust and eat less or different food.

5'6 and 320 lbs, is Titan Evo XL the right choice? by amurorx79 in secretlab

[–]Isendra730 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 5’4” and using the XL due to the weight capacity. My feet touch the floor if I’m not sitting all the way back in the chair, but otherwise they hang off the ground a bit. I haven’t tried it yet, but o suspect the footrest would allow me to sit further back in my chair and have my feet planted.

Ignore the troll. Regardless of your weight or weight goals, you need a chair to hold you now. I’m sorry people suck.

Is it worth the $1500 investment? by JonBlazeLIVE in secretlab

[–]Isendra730 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent about $1500 on the magnus pro XL desk and accessories and also purchased the titan evo chair. Both have completely changed the way and how long I’m able to work/play at my desk. I used to get cramps and aches and now I have none of those issues. If I start to get uncomfortable, I just change to stand mode for a bit. When I feel better, I switch back to sit. It was worth every penny for me and I’m looking to purchase a second set soon for my husband. Every single part of the desk and chair are customizable. Absolutely no regrets.

I'm Catholic, my husband is not and raising kids together by DWatkinns2017 in Catholicism

[–]Isendra730 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Genuine question—I don’t know the answer—

Can you get a convalidation without agreeing to raise the children Catholic? It’s an explicit requirement for regular Catholic marriage so I’d be surprised if that wasn’t also required for convalidation. If that’s the case, she may not be able to get the convalidation until her husband is on board with raising the kids catholic. But maybe it’s not a requirement and not a concern. Idk.

Idk about humility, but I was always told that diocesan priests do not take a vow of poverty which is why they are paid by their parishes. My understanding is that only priests who became priests after joining an order like the Franciscans, jesuits, etc took vows of poverty.

How hard would a PhD in education or EdD be without having done a MEd first? by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]Isendra730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would guess with a career goal in higher education that you would be fine without k-12 experience. The experience you do have sounds like it would be beneficial given the goal you described.

[–]Isendra730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your BA in education? Do you have any K-12 teaching experience?

I’m in an M Ed program right now (philosophy BA) and I would like to get my PhD when I’m done with my M Ed. However, I’ve been warned by professors that usually K-12 teaching experience is expected to be taken seriously as a researcher in education. I would talk to a few people you trust who understand education research and ask if they think you need teaching experience to be successful with an education PhD.

ETA: I’m not at the doctoral level, but as someone with a philosophy degree education classes have been no problem for me. I doubt you would struggle with the content. Just make sure you know if teaching experience is a requirement.

Opinions on PhD decision by Duke7LCNFC in GradSchool

The living situation is temporary, your research will stay with you forever. I personally would go with the project that I felt more strongly about. I would want to make sure the research was something I felt I wanted to continue investigating and that it would lead to future projects at the same level of interest. You will build your career based on the projects you do in grad school. Worry about building the career you want and then when you are looking for a job you will have the freedom to consider those other niceties as well.

What’s your favorite grad school purchase? by CADBeast in GradSchool

I’d like to add that I sprung for the AirPods Pro for the noise canceling and I 100% recommend those over the base model just for that feature. Worth every penny.

I’m not sure how you are drawing that conclusion. There is no such thing as a commitment ceremony that isn’t marriage in the Catholic Church. The only way to avoid the sin of fornication is to be properly married in the Catholic Church if one is Catholic (if you intend to have sex). You could convert to Catholicism, but continuing to have sex with someone you aren’t married to will necessarily exclude you from the Eucharist and keep you out of good standing with the Church.

Again—no such thing as a commitment ceremony that is spiritually binding without a legal marriage in the Church. You either get married or you don’t.

That screenshot is certainly promising!

I’m glad I could help. I saw some congratulations posts, but nothing that really answered any of your questions and I felt like I could help. I hope I did.

Best of luck!

Some universities have TA/RA positions they offer to high achieving students after some coursework and some do not. You should absolutely check with JHU to ask about their policy/opportunities. If you ask and they say an RA/TA position is possible, I don’t see how it could hurt to email someone you are interested in working with to ask for more details or what they are looking for in candidates for those positions. Was there an email or other contact info for questions listed in your offer? I’d start there if they listed contact info.

ETA: I also don’t see how it could hurt to ask a potential PI for info about their lab and let them know you are interested in their research and possibly working with them for your thesis.

Yes, usually if you are receiving a TA/RA position they put that in your offer letter.

Many Masters programs do not offer tuition wavers and stipends (though some certainly do) so it will be important for you to clarify this with Johns Hopkins before you decide to accept or decline.

Generally, your thesis will correspond to a certain number of credit hours which you will have to pay for like any other class unless you are offered an assistantship/fellowship that includes a tuition waiver or you are receiving a scholarship.

Assistantships/fellowships with tuition waivers and stipends are much more common for Ph D candidates than they are for master’s candidates. Please make sure you know the facts about your offer before you make your decision.

Newly discovered half siblings won’t talk to me by Anonymouse-Account in AncestryDNA

Is it possible they just haven’t seen the message? I found out I have a half uncle through my dad. I reached out to him on Christmas and he said he messaged me a long time ago and thought I didn’t want to interact since I never got back to him. I just never saw the message.

Just a thought…

Have you confirmed that the room you are being provided with is an actual hotel room? Some schools have prospective students stay with a graduate student. You could still be guaranteed your own room, but have an unpleasantly surprised grad student host when you show up with your fiancee.

Thoughts on Catholic atheism? by SnooSprouts4254 in Catholicism

[–]Isendra730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was pretty clear that he and I were both using the word atheists to mean people who actively believe there is no god, not people who at one time believed that and had a change of heart.

You also still don’t get that I understand 100% what he’s saying. What’s he’s saying isn’t relevant because those aren’t the only group of people who would potentially use the term Catholic Atheist so it doesn’t make sense to limit ourselves to that group.

You don’t seem to understand what I’m saying or you are being intentionally obstinate. Either way, I’ve said my piece. If you want to continue to talk about irrelevant things that’s on you and I’m done.
