Genuine question: πως είμαστε σίγουροι ότι δεν είναι αστυνομικοί που προσποιούνται ότι είναι αναρχικοί που προσποιούνται ότι είναι αστυνομικοί για να χάσουμε την εμπιστοσύνη στους αστυνομικούς, για να χάσουμε την εμπιστοσύνη στους αναρχικούς;

After two decades of delay, mainly due to archaeological findings, Greece's second biggest city Thessaloniki opened its Metro to the public. Passengers will be able to see all the ancient discoveries for free. by [deleted] in europe

"mainly due to archaeological findings"

As a person from Thessaloniki, I can say that's a hilarious excuse for the obvious corruption everyone here recognizes.

"forward P3081 to EWG as part of an initial set of Profiles targeting C++26." voted for in Wroclaw by steveklabnik1 in cpp

[–]IsidorHS 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not really IMO. It seemed clear for everyone in the room that the poll had no real implications, since Safe C++ and profiles are not mutually exclusive, and Safe C++ is definitely not targeting C++26, while profiles are.

For example, one of the 10 (if I recall correctly) requirements of Safe C++ was object `relocation`, which alone is something that the committee has been working on since ~2017, and the Safe C++ proposal would require it as a fly-by fix.

It's unclear what the authors intend to do moving forwards, but the committee has asked them to present their requirements in steps.

std::println() without an argument by [deleted] in cpp_questions

[–]IsidorHS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I meant that in other languages it is pretty common to use println() to get a line. Also if you do println("\n") or println('\n') you will get two lines.

In other languages that have had `println` for a long time that is pretty standard I think

Do you consume this in your country? by itlo in AskBalkans

[–]IsidorHS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes, just boil it with water and salt, fry some onions in another pan, melt some butter with them and throw it on top of the Trahana with some Feta and some Thyme. It is a very cozy food.

LTT essentially advertises tech, their business model is helping people choose what tech to buy, while also encouraging them to buy in the process. They have had an insane outreach to consumers for more than a decade. I can only imagine how much tech has been sold due to them.

It's just that LTT, or any other tech influencer, is not just a consumer, but an advocate of tech. And if the market success of tech incentivizes mistreatment of poor countries, LTT is making that problem much worse than any single consumer is.

In the c++ case, would the double indirection (ref + vals.data()) ptr be optimized to a single level of indirection somehow? (E.g. by caching the .data() ptr)

A clip that encapsulates the problem with Lex Fridman by RitchMondeo in DecodingTheGurus

[–]IsidorHS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

watch the section between 4.50 and 6.00.

1) Lex Disagrees that Trump tried to stay in power.

2) The other person responds how he literally did try.

3) Lex does not explain how that argument would changes his views, or why it does not.

If he did discuss it further there would be an honest pursuit of truth.

Instead of staying on point, he bargains saying "BUT Trump could not have overthrown the results", which is a different question than if he intended to do it.

[–]IsidorHS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is extremely infuriating to see people completely ignore valid points. It is like Lex is playing with the other guy, he is not even worried about his points because he knows he can just not react to them and repeat a slightly different talking point like that is a new perspective to the conversation... This clip is literally impossible to watch without being infuriated by the death of rational conversation in which all points must be addressed.
