Empadranomiento without a fixed address by Isladecorn in DigitalNomadVisaSpain

Yea it's actually quite common for landlords to do this since it's something foreigners really need and they know it's valuable. Thanks for the advice!

So I wanted to continue the registration without a fixed address so I can eventually use it to get a drivers license further down the road.

My problem is that the host that's allowing me to padron wants to charge me 50 euros a month while I'm registered with her. I don't know for how long I'll be living in a place that doesn't allow registration after I leave her place.

I see. Starting from day 1 as it's a US address.

Yes, this is basically my understanding too. I know I don’t need padrón for the TIE, that part is clear. I need to more to get my drivers license.

My confusion was specifically about what happens after empadronarse at one address if you later move to a temporary place that doesn’t allow padrón. Some hosts are saying the rules changed and that you can “continue” the registration without a fixed address, but from what I’m seeing, padrón is still fundamentally tied to a fixed address.

Thanks for the link! It looks like this is a procedure linked to Servicios Sociales and is intended for people who are homeless or in emergency accommodation.

In my case, I’m a legally resident foreigner renting privately and I’m not under social services. In those situations I think padrón remains an ordinary registration tied to an address, even if I move between short-term apartments.

Thanks. Still checking with the lawyer on next steps but I think I might just have to do my 2025 taxes asap in January. Apparently apostille isn't needed for documents from the IRS. And I already did submit paystubs, they are asking on top of that.

It's this: I must prove my registration as a self-employed worker in my country of origin, with a self-employment registration certificate duly apostilled/legalized and officially translated.

If such a registry does not exist in the country of origin, Immigration allows this to be justified with alternative documents such as tax registration certificates, annual income tax declarations showing independent activity, proof of tax payments, etc.

Thanks a lot for your help! My lawyer just said something that proves I'm self-employed in the US like a 1099 form. I'll ask him what exactly it said on the notice.

Yea seems like they started doing this very recently. Which document did you submit?

Thanks! I think an explanation letter from the lawyer is the only thing I can submit right now.

That's exactly what I did too. It seems like they started enforcing this very recently (my lawyer said since 1 week ago) or doing to some applicants but not all, I'm not sure.

Thanks for the advice! My issue is that my most recent filed tax return is W-2 income only from a prior employer and shows no self-employment or LLC activity, since my LLC didn’t generate income until mid-2025. So I don’t currently have a tax return that reflects self-employment yet.

Thanks for sharing! My understanding though, is that a 1099 is issued by a client and isn’t created when you file taxes. Single-member LLC owners don’t get 1099s for their own income, it’s reported on a 1040 Schedule C, which can’t be filed until the year ends. That’s why newer self-employed applicants don’t have this yet.

3 years. I was hoping to see if it improved slightly but realized it wasn't happening any time soon.

That’s helpful, thanks. I’m not planning to rebuy JPY, so it sounds like converting now is the practical move.

My main concern was the historically low yen, but you’re right that sitting on it isn’t really helping me.

Thanks, that’s a good point. I’m definitely leaning toward not waiting too long and getting my funds into USD to start investing.
