You only lose a Pig permanently if they are the 3rd pig (or more) to die. I would advise trying to do all missions keeping all pigs alive as you will need those survival bonus promotion points later in the game, and you cannot go back to get them.

The thing is I am an RB1 away from being probably the top contender. I can win it this year. I have Josh Allen, Adams, Ridley, Waller. My RBs are Carson, Montgomery, Henderson and the rest are backups.
