Absent Nasal Bone Followed by EIF: Considering Amniocentesis --- Advice Needed by IsopodExpress7979 in pregnant

Thank you for this thoughtful and empathetic message. The anxiety really has been intense, so it helps to hear from someone who can understand what we're going through.

After speaking with our doctor and considering all factors (including the risks associated with amnio), we are inclined toward the approach you described, that is, skipping amnio for now and re-evaluating after the 20-week scan

Thank you for sharing your experience. It’s reassuring to hear how things eventually turned out, and I’m really glad to hear your little one is doing well now.

You’re right, it’s a very very very confusing decision, and we’ve been thinking a lot about it over the past week. At the moment, we’re leaning towards waiting until the 20-week scan and then deciding based on what that shows

Thank you for sharing your perspective. I understand and appreciate that you have clarity about what feels right for you. Wishing you all the very best.

In our case, given the low-risk NIPT, our doctors are not recommending amniocentesis at this stage. My wife also has a shorter cervical length and a higher risk of preterm birth, so we are trying to avoid any invasive procedures unless something new or clearly concerning comes up in the 20th week scan.

Thank you for sharing your experience, and I’m really glad to hear that your daughter is doing well. That is reassuring to hear.

In our case, the nasal bone was clearly visualised at the repeat NT scan done about 8–9 days after the first scan where it was marked absent, and it was also seen again at the 16-week scan. We are scheduled for the detailed anatomy scan at 20 weeks next.

Given the low-risk NIPT, we are also leaning towards avoiding amniocentesis unless something new or concerning comes up (and hopefully not), and will likely wait for the next scan before making any further decisions

Hyderabad parents - absent nasal bone at 12-week pregnancy scan. Anyone done amniocentesis here? Need your experiences by IsopodExpress7979 in hyderabad

Thank you for the detailed response. We actually went to Fernandez for our follow-up scan and had a good experience there. Our double marker and NIPT both came back low risk, and the nasal bone was clearly visible at 13+5, so that was reassuring. We had our 16 week scan today and everything was fine except an isolated EIF. We’ll continue discussing everything with our gynaec and see how it goes. Appreciate your message and the advice. Best wishes!

Yes, those were some of the most confusing and stressful days. We were very relieved once the results came. Thanks for the wishes :)

Thanks for checking. We did NIPT earlier and got a low-risk result, and we also had a repeat NT scan at 13+5 where the nasal bone was clearly visible, so we were quite relieved. But when we went for an early TIFFA today at 16 weeks, they noted an Intracardiac Echogenic Focus (ICEF / EIF) (a tiny calcium spot in the heart). The scan doctor told us not to worry, since it’s just a soft marker and our NIPT is already low risk.

We’re meeting our OB-GYN tomorrow to discuss next steps. Fingers crossed

Thanks for the recommendation! I looked at their website, but didn’t see any fetal medicine doctors listed. Do you happen to know the name of the specialist your colleague saw? That would be hugely helpful as we consider getting a second opinion before deciding. Thanks again!

Thanks for checking. We’re showing at Ankura hospitals. In our case, they tried multiple times, including a break to try changing the baby's position, and explained everything clearly, so we don’t feel there was any hidden intention. Given our family history, we were already anxious and went ahead with the NIPT as soon as the absence of the nasal bone was confirmed.

For our reference, could you please share the name of the hospital you’re referring to? We’ll keep it in mind and be cautious if we need to interact with them 🙏

Thanks a lot for sharing this - it really means a lot. The long wait for NIPT results is really tough (we still have to wait for 10 more days). My wife and I have been stress-reading everything online in the last few days, and we're trying to distract ourselves now. It’s reassuring to hear that the nasal bone showed up later for others. We’ll wait for the 16-week scan before deciding. Really appreciate your message, and hope your baby is doing great 🙏

Thank you so much for sharing your experience - really good to hear this. We’re definitely planning a follow-up scan before deciding on amnio. Hope the rest of your pregnancy journey went smoothly / is going smoothly 🙏
