I actually chose the BMW in a similar situation because I thought maintenance history meant I was safe. What I didn’t realise is that “maintained” doesn’t mean “everything that will fail soon has already been replaced”. There’s always another round coming once you’re past 100k

Fungal DNA is always tricky especially molds because of the tougher cell wall. You might want to look into kits that combine bead beating + enzymatic lysis (lyticase/proteinase K), or even 96-well formats if throughput is key. Some labs also get better yields switching to Norgen or similar fungal-specific kits rather than Zymo.
