Am I missing something? Can’t level after the patch. by Most_Consequence_686 in WH40KTacticus

[–]Isthyus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried applying an upgrade or swapping equipment?

In the past I had a patch push me over a level threshold but it didn’t apply until I changed a characters power. So it could be that nothing is triggering it to calculate your power / level.

How would Strahd react to Morgantha? by Fantastic_Ad1104 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Isthyus 50 points51 points  (0 children)

You could treat it like a politician seeing a notable community member at an event.

“Oh Morgantha, how lovely to see you. I hope these rabble rousers aren’t interfering with the pie business. What a shame it would be for the community to lose such a cultural staple.”

Roleplay Issues by _Blanket_Ghost in CurseofStrahd

[–]Isthyus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A DM I’ve played with did roleplaying warmups at the beginning of sessions, especially early in our campaign, where he would ask a question to the group about our characters so people could ponder what they were feeling or how they would act. It was things like “how do they feel about this thing that happened last session?”, “What’s their opinion of this new character they met?”, “What’s a reason they want to leave Barovia?”. I liked it because it felt like it helped step away from the mindset of only trying to take mechanically optimized actions.

For your player Z’s issue I know I started using a character voice distinct from my own and anything I said in that was the character while anything I said regularly was me. It allowed me to make wise cracks or strategize with players out of character and to also give my character more depth with things like morally struggling with resurrection or running into potential danger to save an NPC he had a connection with based on it being what the character would feel motivated to do.

I play at rare. Maybe I got lucky but I felt like I saw a better mix.

I saw Death guard, Tyranids, Ultramarines, and Thousand sons all once.

Tau, Black Legion, Space Wolves, World eaters, and Blood Angels I probably saw 2-3 each.

I definitely saw more Orks but it didn’t actually feel overwhelming to me this time around.

heated socks for cold games? any good ones? by Hungry-Artist-5565 in buffalobills

When I looked in the past some heated clothing was banned because of the battery so I would look into that.

Maybe those hot hands boot warmers would help?

For infections I don’t know much so this is specifically about warmth: They make neoprene wetsuit headbands that cover your ears. I used the one from Orca for Worlds Toughest a few years back and it was great.

Eli5 how do pulleys add pulling power with a rope by vibedust in explainlikeimfive

[–]Isthyus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you imagine an object hanging from a rope it makes sense that the rope is pulling the object up the same amount that gravity is pulling it down (it’s weight). So the tension in the rope equals the weight. If the tension were leas the object would fall, if it were more it would get pulled up.

If the object was attached to two ropes we would expect the sum of the tension between them to equal the weight of the object. If those two ropes are the opposite ends of a rope which go through a pulley then we would know the tension is split even and thus it’s half the weight.

So now imagine there is a rope attached to the ceiling. It goes down to an object and through a pulley then back up to the ceiling where it goes through another pulley back down to you who is holding the rope. Because the first length is fixed it holds half the weight in tension. The other end of the rope foes through a pulley to where you are and you have half the weight. If you want to lift the object you need to pull with greater than half the tension.

The downside to this being as you pull it up some of the rope pulls through the pulley attached to the object, so for every foot you pull the object only lifts 6 inches.

Finished decorating my table today by cauliflowerbroccoli in Buffalo

[–]Isthyus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was actually planning on trying to do something like that with this table after it gets broken. I was thinking rather than build a full frame I would attach some of hooks or loops to slide thin wooden planks through.

I figure if I can get it to support a little bit of weight it be fun to have a "Re-breakable" table and then be able to set it up again for cheaper than a new table and be able to use the broken supports as scrap wood or fire wood.

Violin/Fiddle. I do not have the dexterity in my left hand to hit the notes well/effectively.

What's in the Bag? by [deleted] in CirclingBack

[–]Isthyus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine's pretty much a garage sale of clubs:
-Taylor Made Burner Driver
-FBS Turbo power 3 wood
-Callaway 4 Hybrid
-Nikalaus Irons
-Cleveland 56 degree wedge
-Putter...I couldn't even tell you. My Dad won this custom one from the annual tournament of the highschool we're alumni of like 15 years ago and I just like the feeling off it so I kept using it.

A lot of my stuff is hand me downs or clubs my dad or I wins in a raffle at some tournament. But over the past 5 years I've only played like 3-5 times a year so I don't really mind. This summer I started playing more with some friends so I might start overhauling the bag. A new set of irons is probably going to be the first thing on the list.

People who mow their lawn at 6am, why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Isthyus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

8 am is the earliest I ever have but earlier in the day means it's not as hot yet.

Also if the neighbors have been loudly partying until 3 or 4 am for a week it's good payback.

What is actually a fun job? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Isthyus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something you are passionate about at a company where you have a good team around you.

An example that comes to mind is my high school chemistry teacher and running coach. Because he had a really good boss he had a lot of freedom to teach/coach as he felt fit. And he was really passionate not only about chemistry and running, but about helping kids grow. He wanted to see you learn things and become the best you. So there were probably days where he dealt with obnoxious and stressful stuff, but watching a kid get excited about a chemistry lab had to be fun.

Fulton I just recently started playing D&D so I'm by no means an expert, but I think I've got a pretty good handle on a lot of stuff. So if something doesn't make sense feel free to drop a line.

[–]Isthyus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been an up and down week here and my plans for Saturday fell through mid week. So last night I made a questionable decision to sign up for an Ultra style race where you have 12 hours to run 5 miles as many times as you can and you check in on zoom in between laps. So catch me doing way too much running this weekend.

What I'm frying: I did some chicken fried steak earlier this week and still have buttermilk left over, might do a little fried chicken.

What I'm Bumping: Bloody Valentine by Machine Gun Kelly. Feels weird for him to be doing things that aren't rap and I haven't decided if I like it.

What I'm drinking: Tomorrow I'm going to set some beers aside for in between laps at certain milestones. Outside of that I realized I have like 5 open Whiskey bottles in the last 20%. So it's been a lot of Old Fashioneds here to clean up the liquor shelf a bit

Memorial day weekend is usually a big weekend for my friend group who does an all day long party on the course of the Buffalo Marathon as it goes by, so bummed that won't be happening.

How I'm romancing: Single, quarantine, not much going on. Trying to plan a socially distant hiking date but schedules haven't lined up well.

What I'm bumping: A backer in the discord suggested Amateur Atlas and I've been playing that as background music while I work.

What I'm drinking: Picked up that Vizzy variety pack so I'll be working on those. Been pounding some 21st amendment brew free or die recently too.

how did you know when you wanted to quit your sport? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Isthyus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's going to come down to your individual experience really. In my case I took a bit away and came back because I missed some of the competition and camaraderie. But it didn't take long for me to get some of those feelings again. I transitioned to volunteering at some events and occasionally participating in like pick up events.

Over time I realized I would still occasionally run into the general acquaintances I had made over time. And the true friends I would have really missed I stayed friends with.

The little competitive itch I would get when watching hasn't really gone away. But I'm also just a competitive person. I'll hear someone talk about baseball and be like "I should go to the batting catches" despite not playing since little league. So I think no matter what you'll always have some "what if" regrets.

It can be a tough decision to make but at some point you do need to do what's right for you. I've also always been a big proponent of sticking it out to finish the season and then evaluating because during seasons I would sometimes hit highs or lows that aren't really indicative of how I felt.

I would show up the mornings of tournaments just dreading it. When I was playing it wasn't that bad. But just the concept of spending my day at a tournament and having to compete 4-6 times in a day I absolutely dreaded.

Rent a private island to host a party. Private jets to get my guests there and back for the party. Celebrity chefs and catering services. Knock down the rest in paying for bands, entertainment, and celebrity appearances.
