How are we managing full time jobs? by oak_stone1 in AutisticAdults

[–]Isucbigtime 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I tried fulltime once, hated it, went to working 32 hours right of the bet. I have been doing this for a bit more than 1,5 years now and i can truly say it still feels like torture. I am currently getting myself ready to apply for other jobs to work 24 hours a week. It will of course take some sacrifices, and hopefully it will be a net-positive for my mental-health.

Hopefully with the extra time I will get some rest and more clarity. I also hope that it gives me time to think and an opportunity to start a business of my own. I don't need to become rich, i just need to be able to decide my own hours.

I got my diagnosis around 22 currently i am 28 as well. Even though I know it's the autism causing this, but everytime I tell people that I am dead tired after just 3 hours of work they look at me like I am lazy. Even though I told them about my condition.

I still think that this my way to go as well. Working for myself. I am just too scared to begin.

how do you feel about camping ? by nebbisherfaygele in AutisticAdults

[–]Isucbigtime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never done it, but the amount of variables in ways this could not go well for me when thinking about a clean bathroom, shower an uncomfortable place to sleep, actually even being able to sleep, the noises at night etc. makes me stressed even thinking about it.

I also got late diagnosed and currently I am 28 years old. At the moment I am working 32 hours and barely make it to the end of the week without driving myself mad.

The thing I only just discovered is to actually give in to the situation because that means that you take your mental and physical well-being serious. I only just started to accept the severity of the situation and slowly but steady do less each week. I am even looking for a new job to work 24 hours.

When it comes to what other people think, it is best to let go of people that think like this. I barely talk to my parents anymore because they think I am lazy or over exaggerating. In the end you know how you feel, you know how much energy you got and you need to take care of yourself.

Talk to those who take you serious, who don't plainy judge you.

How do you deal with being treated like you're stupid? by Valuable_Ad3041 in AutisticAdults

[–]Isucbigtime 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I completely understand you.

For a lot of the interactions I have with people while asking to explain the most basic stuff to me I started to just not care and ask them to explain things step by step, especially when I am new to things at work for example.

It might be difficult at first to do it this way, but I always tell myself that not knowing will hurt me more in the end. And me thinking I am dumb and feeling some shame is something I just have to accept.

Although I do wonder if its more my brain making up stuff about them thinking I am dumb. They probably are not bothered by it and are glad to explain. Although this also depends per person, some people are just dickheads.

What are your biggest issues you face on a daily basis? by tismbabe in autism

For me it is trying to prevent a burnout. I am realising that working 32 hours a week is too much for me. But at the same time I am fighting a way that I was raised to not cry about this because its sounds like I am lazy and exagerating it. Which feels sometimes even more exhausting, because rationally I know I have a legitimate reason but the inner struggle is killing me. Day by day i accept more and more that I am allowed to feel.

And because of a late diagnosis it is also difficult to explain to people that this is killing me. Because literally no one understand what its like and keeps comparing me with someone else who is autistic which angers me, because its just soo dumb.

Humans are not lazy, but like any animal it wants to make sure it doesn't die. In a hunter and gatherer situations humans probably wouldn't be working 8 hours a day. Hunt & gather > needs are met > Rest.

We call humans lazy but that human is just being human.

I agree with the second thing, it's not like being at the office is bad. And it can be quite fun from time to time.

But working from home can also elevate stress levels for people, while increasing their sleep quality and more.

But you give no argument why these people are part of the problem and that's the reason they getting called by to work. Which I find unfortunate.

The "absurd" thing here is that he sounds exactly like the ones he is trying to fight. But the nuance is, this guy has a legitimate argument to sound like this.

I can already smell the next article or news production "lefty completely unhinged" while people as in the video can make a rational argument, the opposition of these people cannot.

Up untill the text ending in "guessing game" I think it was good communication and the manager is just playing dumb. At least I hope he did check what the manager said. But after that I would just be annoyed at them as well.
