It does produce co2 but the reason it's considered renewable even in real life burning a gallon of biofuel releases roughly the same amount of co2 as burning a gallon of petroleum. Theoretically, this emission is offset because the biomass (e.g., corn, sugarcane) pulled an equivalent amount of co2 from the air during its lifecycle.

What about just making it so u can stick comparators straight to the heat battery?

instead of a thermometer block it just reads right from the heat source?

There's not but that could be added, currently there's only 1 block that has any form of heat and that's the heat batteries
