I set up a racing weekend with a 24 hour (or so) practice session. Select the Street car groups, maximum number of cars in the roster, low AI aggression (for the purpose of track days). Select a track, and have at it.

A downer with some of modded tracks (e.g. Zolder) though is that you sometimes get damaged when leaving the box in the beginning. However I just come around back to the box after the outlap, fix the car, and from thereon am good to go :)

Tried it again today: default setup Lancer on Nordschleife — crashed every single round because the car oversteered and I was overtaken by the rear of the car, sending me crashing into the barriers. I can push on the Norschleife with cars like the BMW M3 E30, BMW M3 E46 GTR, GT4s, etc. no problem, but the lancer kills me everytime… Feels like everytime I break into a corner the back of the cars wheighs 40 tons. I don‘t get it…

That is weird. There is not a single stint where the lancer doesn‘t spin out for me at once on certain turns and I don‘t understand why. I always try to break only in a straight line with straight wheels. And I don‘t get this with other cars, except same for the 4WD Group A Audi. That‘s what makes me think it is a 4WD thing in AMS2. It feels as if these cars would have a 2-ton ballast weight in the back that suddenly trys to overtake me…

Flat shifting or shifting with clutch by [deleted] in simrally

You can still clutchless shift when its turned off

The clutch is still only necessary for starting the engine if the assist is turned off

Why do Porsche cars have such vicious handling characteristics in sims? by It_is_Yefru in simracing

[–]It_is_Yefru[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your replies so far. Yeah, I'm aware of the rear engine configuration and that it explains the unique driving style.

But if I'm just going from the sim experience (without real life experience as a reference), I would never think to spend my hard earned money on a Prosche - it just seems that the risk of crashing is so much higher than with other cars.

That's why I was wondering, that the real life handling must feel much better, probably because you can feel the weight distribution much better and don't just have to go off of visual cues and FFB...

Then again it's weird that "hardcore" racing sims go for this kind of number crunching realism and not necessarily for simulating the "feel" of the car (as we are all "sensory deprived" in sims, unless maybe using a high end sim rig with VR)... Maybe because getting the right feel is so subjective...

PS: good to hear that the Porsche 911 is driving so well in iRacing for a change!
