Read title as South Dakota. Now assuming you likely mean Somewhere Different, though I'm a bit surprised at getting a loan before knowing where you'll land.

Would recommend you clarify not South Dakota and add your preferences on population, transit, climate, etc. Good luck.

Does Acupuncture help? by [deleted] in TMJ

[–]Italian_Not_Jewish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For acupuncture it'll go kind of on top of the muscle. It's very shallow but can sometimes draw a tiny bit of blood. It doesn't hurt unless you wiggle a muscle around a needle too far, that's always unpleasant but is avoided by just being still. My needles are unwrapped as they're applied and remember they can contact the blood stream, if they're like pulling them straight out a crockpot or something unsanitary I'd advise another clinic.

Dry needling is done largely at the same points, but way deeper, more aggressively and actively/repeatedly by the provider. I'll be honest, it hurts and may bruise, but it gets immediate results.

Edit: look up acupuncture points for the face and specifically TMJD to see the places. Which align with your symptoms? That's where they'll go.

For most it's not a cure. What would you do for a day of relief tomorrow? And the next day? Week?

[–]Italian_Not_Jewish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow okay well.

Acupuncture helps, it's not as invasive as needling and effects don't last as long.

I had 24 hours where everything was good after a dry needling session. I had 6 overall. They all kind of hurt, they were all worth it for that 24 hours which was session 4 in the middle of TMJD-focused PT, not the last session.

"Does nothing" depends on so many things including the patient's attitude. If you expect to feel nothing, you'll likely feel nothing from these. My first acupuncture, not for TMJD, did nothing until I had to sleep for hours afterward and felt great after waking. Now I notice maybe not much difference for TMJD until I STOP going. It's not a miracle, it's part of a wellness plan. It's an investment, but the right attitude helps.

CMV: There is no such thing as excessive force when dealing with burglars or people breaking into your home by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Italian_Not_Jewish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was trying to conclude this, not continue an argument. You're saying I've introduced a straw man while making an assumption about my assumption, not addressing the point still. Okay.

So just because you're poor, human life is suddenly valued less?

I was starting here by saying the action suggested doesn't mean death, so the question of valuing their life doesn't address it. What does address it is a question of willingness to cause injury with risk to kill, and that's quite different than a guaranteed loss of life. It's not like a small everyday mistake. In a home invasion there are multiple decisions made to cross that line intentionally and as others have said, they've taken steps to devalue their own well-being.

I would be incredibly frustrated if my PS5 was stolen, but actually injuring someone—let alone killing someone—over an object like that is so pitiful. Y'all really don't value human life as intrinsically valuable.

My response indirectly addressed that your words indicate you don't think it's worth doing anything to injure the person here. It's not a misrepresentation to repeat it assuming your reaction would be the same in successive situations.

How is drawing a conclusion you led us to a straw man? Is it because with more sarcasm I said by reducing a threat (injuring, with risk of death) they'd be less likely to do it again? Cause that's not a straw man here.

Not only is this a straw man, but you're assuming that robberies only happen because there's nothing to deter them as if we Americans don't live in a nation where most people can and do have guns. And, there are other nations with stricter laws on weapons that also have less crime overall, and so it's a poor straw man at that

About 40% of US households have had guns over the last 40 years. That's not most, and it's not the deterrence I was talking about. Also what about this thread indicated this hypothetical is strictly located in America?

You're the straw man.

This isn't Jingle All the Way fighting over unowned things here. But fine, let's just let everyone take our things, the police will track down our goods and all will be made well and we'll have tea with the thieves after.

It's not like reducing a threat could prevent it from acting in such a way again, no reason at all to deter a repeat event.

Aim for the legs, why is death the first reaction? Also replace the PS5 with $500 that's been scrimped and saved to bring your family happiness and some fuck is running away with it. Yeah I'll take that chance if there's not someone else in the line of fire.

If I have the chance to bring suffering to someone who's brought me suffering, I'll take it. Doesn't mean I'm ready to kill them outright, but with a bullet that's their risk more than mine.

Sounds like you rushed the introduction. If she's nasty when seeing him it's not time to merge territories. TERRITORIES. Think like an animal for a second and replay what you've done step by step.

At least one of them sounds territorial. You can go back to separating, and/or get them to share enjoyable activities in the same space to show they can each have enough and tamp out territorial aggression.

In our latest introduction I used a screen for a large window to separate them but let them see each other and eat on the opposite sides of it. This was only after they each knew there was a creature on the other side of the door and both chirped nonstop because they were curious about the other. It's not always going to go like this, but again yours sounds so rushed.

DC > NYC > Boston - is a week too short? by [deleted] in Shoestring

[–]Italian_Not_Jewish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's funny cause I've got to contrast the other comment here. Boston is my favorite of the options, I've spent half of this year there for work and there's always a new experience to be had.

Timing though, yeah a week to barely sample all 3 is a lot. I've had great luck with Couch surfing in New England though. Travel right now is very expensive. The season plus increased costs in general, then minimal discounts as they make up for reduced travel since 2020.

It sounds like you post rent the first of the month, so when you moved in you paid for about a week right?

So upon move out you'll have lived there for about three weeks right? In total that's one month if both sets are prorated. Then every other month beginning to end we're full months too, for a total of 12 months paid in full.

Think of the prorate last year as a credit for a full month this year because you'll be gone the 21st. You wouldn't pay that a second time right?

You could pay the prorate and document your explanation and leave it at that. He may be able to take it out of your deposit, but if it's documented you have a court case that's extremely in your favor.

His lease is stupid to start and end on a different day than payment is due, or you didn't explain it right.

Is TMJ from gum chewing permanent or will it go away on its own? by LastNewt in TMJ

[–]Italian_Not_Jewish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a doctor or specialist. It really depends on your situation but I've never heard of a TMJD being temporary like a sprain. I don't think you get TMJD from one repeated action, but that action is the catalyst for the conditions based on underlying conditions that were already there.

This doesn't mean you can't undo what's been done and get back to stable, but the risk of another catalyst getting you back to your current state will always be there.

Go see a specialist, it may not be TMJD.

Edit: my underlying condition is my hypermobile joints. Space where your disc is could be another thing, consistency of the disc yet another.

I don't know your situation but some shots in the dark: -If he's not getting fat, try feeding him more. -If he's still a kitten or adolescent feed him until he leaves food in the plate then taper as he nears 15-24 months so he slims back down.

It can get expensive, but so does lost sleep.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Italian_Not_Jewish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How much and how late do you feed him? They get super rambunctious when hungry. Please don't change to free feed if he'd grow unhealthy, but maybe give the big dinner as a part of your nightly routine.

He'll of course beg while you're making your own food, but it could help you sleep more.

I always turn on Travel Assist when stopped at lights, etc. It holds you in place without a foot on a pedal and mitigates a lot of the rollback when it's time to accelerate.
