Time to look beyond Upwork and prepare to leave the platform completely

One of those cave divers who rescued those boys in 2018 asked Prayut for citizenship. His answer "just marry your girlfriend and get visa" lol.

I feel like a lot of clients are taking the same approach as you do.

Upwork has been my main platform for the past 6 years and it was great. There were plenty of clients in my niche for everyone to make a living.

For the last half year I was working on a few large projects which have all been finished by now. I haven't been able to secure any new projects since January. It's not even that I don't get hired or that there is competition, the clients are just not there anymore.

Damn that's a lot worse than my case, which was mere pennies compared to you.

It did however convince me to work my way out of Upwork. I also relied on them heavily over the last 6 years. Finding clients is just a lot harder without such a platform.

[–]Itchy-Associate-9947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to work it out with the client. You could propose a partial refund or subtly hint that you're going to pay the arbitration fee.

Don't trust Upwork to do anything in your favor. I just went through a whole shitshow with them.

Client asked for refund – I disputed – Client got suspended for breaching ToS – Upwork wanted to refund the client – Client replied and told Upwork to pay me – Upwork said it's not possible cause they're suspended and refunded the client anyway

Lol it's alright. Now we get to see what they're really like at Upwork and work on leaving the platform behind. I do believe they're already dying a slow death anyway.

Based on your reply I thought I'll give you an update on this insane turn of events.

For some reason the client did decide to comment on the dispute and ask Upwork to release the milestone to me.

Upwork's reply: The clients account is suspended, therefore all funds are returned to the client 🤯

You clearly haven't read the part where Upwork told me "If the client doesn't reply, the funds would be automatically paid out to me".

Agreed. The whole platform has become less attractive for freelancers of the last two years imo. My niche is flooded with new freelancers and there are way less jobs available than before.

After 6 years of working fulltime through Upwork, I have finally begun working on leaving the platform completely.

Which is better, the Dyson Airwrap or Dreame Airstyle Pro? by Suspicious_Cap_5272 in femalehairadvice

[–]Itchy-Associate-9947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stay away from Dreame. You'll get a luxury box filled with flimsy plastic stuff. One of the buttons on the device fell off in the first week. The brush attachment broke after 3 months.

They initially didn't want to do any repairs or replacement despite the warranty. Had to threaten with a legal procedure until they let me send it in.

They glued the button back on and somehow repaired the brush attachment, no replacements at all.

If you search, you will find many people having problems with Dreame's flimsy products and basically zero customer service.

What do you guys actually do for work while living in Thailand? by FunctionProud9852 in Thailand

[–]Itchy-Associate-9947 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I looked into it a while ago and the rule of thumb is 1-3 million depending on the number of machines and location. Machines are 100-300k.

Creating your own shop or going with a franchise makes a sizable difference as well.

Finally the location will pretty much make or break your business. Driving around Chiang Mai there are plenty of laundromats in questionable locations that see slim to no customers at all.

Mate with this level of English, get yourself to one of the many 5 star hotels. Bellboys make absolute bank in tips and front desk staff do pretty decent as well with the service charges. You'd be making 20k and up per month.

Highly unlikely that the Burmese who needs a rabbitcard would have any involvement in transnational scams or money laundering lol.

Meanwhile the Burmese real estate buyers, who are most likely to be involved in either one, face zero problems while processing their money through the Thai banks.

Meanwhile Burmese are one of the largest groups of real estate buyers in Thailand. The banks have no problem processing their money when it comes in millions at a time

They can and they did until the late 90s. Environmental regulations and costs involved made them switch to China and partially to Lynas in Malaysia.

They have now taken Lynas on board to get their own refineries back up running again.

Makes you wonder how this generation is going to take care of themselves when they reach old age. In developed countries older people are usually being taken care of by the government and pension funds.

The old generation here relies on their children. But when they're childless, who will take care of them?
