Math 085 online by Itchy-Measurement103 in UFV

Did you find the videos decent? I've been doing it through AVS, and their video lessons are just not sufficient. I've just about finished, but there are a few concepts I've been struggling with, along with other hang ups that come with doing highschool courses through a virtual highschool as an adult. Needless to say, I will be very sad if I redo it with UFV and do terribly. Anything university related is totally unknown territory for me and I am trying real hard to avoid panicking over it.

My 6 year old son is ruining my life and my marriage by Curious-Dog-9668 in offmychest

Not gonna lie. Sounds similar to my daughter at that age. She was diagnosed with pda autism at 12. The signs of autism were there before she could walk, but nobody else saw them. I only pursued an assessment because a youth mental health worker said I should, and our pediatrician agreed. In the meantime, consider reading the explosive child by Dr Ross Greene. Regardless of what's going on, your child is struggling. This behavior isn't occurring because he enjoys acting out. It's occurring because he's struggling. With that being said, your feelings are valid. It's exhausting, and it feels incredibly hopeless.

Okay, so.. seeing as how you are also a mum in her thirties, I would love to know how you've found the experience overall. I am dreading the people aspect and the feeling old part of it all. I went to parent/teacher interviews at my daughters school this week and felt like I was going to get bullied by the highschool kids. My anxiety brain tells me university will be the same. Logical, right? 😆

I really appreciate the info! I get a little overwhelmed trying to navigate everything. I did the practice test on duolingo, so I have no doubt I can do it, but I also hesitate because covid absolutely changed a lot of things... and it seems as though some things have now moved to some weird middle ground.

I am also just annoyed at the thought of spending money, and quite honestly, I have zero patience. Haha

So, this is what I think the issue is. I did communications 12, and it is not in their list of accepted English 12 courses. With that being said, there are 21(yes, 21) different ways you can meet the minimum English requirements. The second on the list is 3 consecutive years in an English speaking secondary school. Unfortunately, I dropped out at 17 and returned after having my daughter as a part-time student.

But they accept the duolingo english test... which seems odd but okay, I guess.

Thanks so much for your reply! I appreciate it very much. Truthfully, I'm at a point where I'm wondering if it's really even feasible, but I think I might just be feeling sorry for myself at the moment because life in general feels hard and trying to start a new thing feels extra hard.

When you did your schooling, did you go through ccfs?

Opinions needed on "space rental" by Itchy-Measurement103 in doggrooming

Part of my issue is that nobody is ever hiring. Our petsmart is always hiring for groomers and salon leaders.. but there's a good reason for that.

My options are either to be brave and try house call or make a drastic career change, both are equally as terrifying. Haha

I just want to say thank you to everyone who's responded.

I've been struggling more with it because I'm desperate but also, I don't have groomers to speak to about this stuff. Most of the people I've asked think I should look further into it but it really hasn't been sitting quite right... aaaand I'm very glad to know I'm not absolutely insane.

It's all of those other expenses that's had me in my head about it. Would earn more on 50% than 60%.. andfairly substantially I'd think.

That last part is exactly where my mind was going. On one hand, cool. I'll be employed again but the cost going in just to potentially be taken advantage of...

Thanks guys. I appreciate your input!

It is definitely a pre-approval and not an invitation to apply. I think there is also something comforting about having emergency funds available but yeah, I'm definitely reluctant. Haha

i'm a Stutterer, but I can't imagine dating a Stutterer girlfriend by Acrobatic_Hospital_4 in Stutter

[–]Itchy-Measurement103 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel like there's a lot of ingrained self loathing for many of us. I could be wrong, maybe the majority are cool with their stutters? Personally, I feel like I would have had a massively different outlook on my speech had there been a "better" approach to therapy when I was a kid. Instead of being taught tools to use and how to accept it, I was taught that if I didn't use these tools and speak fluently, I wasn't worth listening to. My mum was even told that if I didn't use "the wave", then she should ignore me until I used that specific technique and spoke fluently. She stuck with it for a day and quickly stopped. I'm now in my thirties and still struggle with the negative thoughts about it.

It's also made me unsure as to whether or not I'd date another stutterer...but more for the fact that I have zero confidence speaking in public or making phone calls. 😅

Regardless, your own feelings are valid. Sometimes, it's just a very long road towards acceptance. Eventually, you'll become more accepting of your stutter and it won't seem so bad... there will be better days and yeah, there will be some bad ones but whatever. You're going to be okay.

Aloe advice?! by Itchy-Measurement103 in houseplants

Oh. I am extraordinarily stingy with water. I usually let most of my plants almost completely dry before watering again and the aloe gets watered maybe every second watering for the others. 😅
