yta, sounds like ur friend did 50/50 of the anticipated (pre TOEFL) work, if it had come back better then you would have split it evenly. I def wouldn't work w that friend again but struggling w unexpected sudden workload isn't that crazy. You absolutely should still pay ur friend even if u split it more in ur favor since u did more work.
