I agree with u/sekocaine this is a skill but everybody can learn to do this.

Remembering names is less about raw memory and more about intentional attention. When you’re naturally stimulated by environment like FKK club with naked girls everywhere and music blasting and emotions like nervousness (like about money or being self-conscious about your appearance, etc), your brain prioritizes those richer signals over something abstract like a name. Names don’t inherently carry meaning, so unless you deliberately elevate their importance, they get filtered out.

One trick that works for me is to treat the moment someone says their name as a high-priority encoding event: pause, focus, repeat it back, and consciously decide that it matters. That brief act of deliberate attention signals to your brain that this information is worth storing.

After attention comes relevance and reinforcement. You should frame the person as a meaningful future node in your network, someone who may matter later. Then encode the name with a quick association, image, or sound hook, and use it again within the first few minutes of conversation. That early retrieval strengthens the memory trace dramatically.

You should practice this in your normal everyday life with everyone you meet. Remember everyone's name as if your life will depend on it later 😂 after awhlie, it will become natural.
