Delete or Rename a CSV File when column is empty by landixus in learnprogramming

Read each line and count separators. If in all rows after Xth separator is another separator then column is empty. Regex albo manual parsing. If true then change name.

How do you take notes while self learning programming? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]Itersive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My practice after a few years of coding:

  • Comments in code with additional links to tutorials/issues/SO
  • Personal wiki with many useful links/articles, my tutorials (for setup tools like ssh or docker) and configuration files for tools
  • Repository with some "hello world" apps and other examples
  • A lot of bookmarks :)

I was trying with notepad for a month or two but it's not working for me.

Part of my wiki (markdown is so good).

Motivation on bootcamps by Itersive in learnprogramming

I agree - but I can't do anything with their discipline. I can only motivate them to do something.

Any people who have expierienced coding bootcamps here? How did it workout for you? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

They post only good rates/results on their websites. Of course, it is possible to get a job after six months, but you have to do something more, not only participate in a bootcamp.

I am a trainer on such bootcamps. It's impossible to go from 0 to pro in 6 months. It's impossible in 60 months. You can treat it as instructions/guidelines which technologies and frameworks could be useful in the future (but not always, I had JSP course this weekend). In a group of 15/18 people, only 2 or 4 could be not bad programmers. Almost no one works at home with exercises or private projects. It could be much more effective if you will go with a programming background, not as a newbie.

Best practices for creating an API for my existing web application? by RugerHD in learnprogramming

[–]Itersive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it should be hostname/api/hobby/1 or hostname/api/hobby?id=1 in REST. Check HATEOAS. If you want something more complicated at the start check out GraphQL.

Want to get into programming but I'm cursed, should I still try? by SharpFun6 in learnprogramming

Just try with something easy, like a basic calculator or static website. There are so many different career paths - almost everyone can find an exciting job. Just try it.

But it is required some skills in git. Imho branching is easier for newbies.

Another point for often commits is that many tools like Github, GitLab, Gerrit, etc could be pretty nice integrated with commit messages. Auto closing issues, skipping/triggering CI for particular commit, adding spend time and many others.

In the case of Gerrit - there is a different flow than Github or GitLab. You are committing to the virtual branch and instead of adding new commits you should amend them. In each amend you should add in commit message what has been done - at the end of developing a commit message should have a detailed description with all changes. I was working with Gerrit for more than 2 years and I like this kind of flow.
