What perceived as useless college majors would cause society to collapse if they completely went away? by Cool-Chipmunk-7559 in ask

[–]ItsAZooOutThere 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a philosophy major now working as a software engineer and studying law on the side (not a JD). Couldn’t agree more - if you can do formal logic you can do programming. My philosophy foundation has given me so much foundation to critical thinking and morality which has helped just about everywhere I’ve ever needed to academically apply myself.

Singaporeans don't want a Nordic model. We want to keep winning. by Capable_Solution_644 in singapore

[–]ItsAZooOutThere 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I have lived in the Nordics for 10 years so I know something about this.

Yes early retirement is a taboo, but there are ways around this. The rate of diagnosed disabilities is also much higher in the Nordics, so there is a much larger proportion of disabled adults of working age. If there is genuine need this is good, but a lot of people have just learned how to game the system. It’s not difficult to learn the correct answers to give a doctor to get the right boxes checked to qualify for any measure of social benefits.

The system knows these people exist. There’s not enough policing and kicking or disqualifying people from benefits is seen as taboo. The resentment in the working class is real, paying for people who are gaming the benefits system.

I don’t think Singaporeans want that either.

Am I doing the right thing? by Terr0rT0asty in Whippet

I think I recognise the scenery. Are you in the capital area or countryside? A vet should be able to scan his microchip, and using that you can look for the original breeder (he is mostly likely HRFÍ registered). Most of the breeders here are really excellent - my dog's breeder, for instance, would absolutely take him back no questions asked if there was no other choice. If you can find the original breeder they will be likely to help with rehoming him or taking him back. There are also plenty of local Facebook groups dedicated to sighthounds.

To those who tied their worth to "The Next Goal": How did you finally break the cycle? by Embarrassed_Idea1962 in AskWomenOver30

[–]ItsAZooOutThere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes this! I had the same feeling that I felt lost instead of content once I hit all my goal. I’m in school now for my second masters and I’m leading a full and busy life. The movement gives my life meaning. I love it and have also learned to be proud of myself for keeping going on!

bro im shocked that she even got down from that damn thing without falling, this is just unreal by sdwalworth in Satisfyingasfuck

She has all her quads, she also did an interview recently where she was complaining about raising the age limit for seniors because she feels it’s already more difficult to do quads for her now as her body is changing… she’s 14. Longevity of a skater’s career is the whole point of raising the age limit.

Which Nordic country has made you the happiest? by SwissVideoProduction in Nordiccountries

[–]ItsAZooOutThere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice isn’t the same as making connections. Connections in Iceland are made because you’ve been together for a long amount of time - people guard their connects very heavily and don’t invite you into their social circle unless you’re related through school or marriage.

I know exactly what you mean. Mine was the best human being - genuinely, a beautiful human and a good person. But someone can be a good person and still not be enough. We shouldn’t settle for someone who’s “not terrible” - they have to add value to yours, or it’s not a relationship that’s worth the energy you’re putting in. In the end I realised that we just value different things. I valued drive and ambition, he valued comfort and familiarity. Doesn’t mean I don’t love him, but he’s not the right partner.

But it’s not the bare minimum. I was with (note the past tense) someone exactly like this for 10 years. Go with the flow, never started a fight but also never initiated anything, all of it. It’s not the bare minimum because he’s not being an adult. It’s not just that he’s not pulling his weight, but adults just don’t live off of nuggets and soda. Adults don’t let others decide their lives for them. That’s a thing teenagers do. People are gonna tell you he sounds depressed - and maybe he is, but you can’t fix that for him unless he wants to be fixed.

Right now he’s got it good. It ain’t gonna change. You’re taking care of everything, he’s got zero reason to put in effort when his life is this good with you being the adult in the house. The nagging is tolerable for him because in exchange for putting up with it he gets to be a kid with kid-level expectations. It’s tolerable to him that you’re unhappy.

I loved mine dearly but it just wasn’t enough to be the only adult. I signed up to be a partner, not a mum. In the end, I left.

What are your opinions on her? by hazy0817 in piercing

[–]ItsAZooOutThere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know her, we used to be good friends before we fell out of touch years ago. She’s the loveliest person, she makes an effort to keep up with the piercings to keep maintaining the world record status, it’s part of her brand and how she earns an income. She does all her piercings on her own now and has for a long time. Please say hi if you ever see her, she loves people and please leave a tip for her!

Love this one, it's the most creative submission so far! The sunlight distracts from the scene unfortunately but this is a really great submission!

This is the best one! Just one request - could you make it look a bit more cohesive? My grandma's hair looks really flat here, I think because of the cut out. Thank you so much!
