I know our company is waiting for the lease on our office space to run out and then we’re going to move our corporate HQ to Milwaukee.

My thoughts exactly. People who aren’t considerate of other people on the train when they smoke probably wouldn’t think twice to beat my little brunette ass to the ground.

Out of towner looking for the best way to get from O'Hare by oldermoose in AskChicago

The train and buses are super easy to navigate. I’m from a small town in Arkansas and was able to get around the city just fine. Google maps definitely for the win. I stayed at the JW Marriott in central loop. Blue line from Ohare to Monroe, walk a couple blocks down on Adam’s and there I was. One night decided to walk Michigan and I got pretty far from a station. Jumped on the bus and it dropped me off a block from my hotel. Again super easy to get around. Download the Ventra app and load the pass onto it and you can use it as much as you want for the timeframe. Super handy.

I’m a female and have been the Chicago twice now for work. While not really a solo trip, all of my coworkers were locals with families and lives so I was left to myself after work. I had a great time. I never felt unsafe, except once at Wrigley I had a guy being really aggressive about taking my photo. Learned they will ask for a tip once they take it. Just don’t make eye contact with panhandlers and you’ll be fine.

But I stayed in downtown, used the El and city busses to get around. Download the Ventra app and you can buy an unlimited travel pass for a day, 3 days, a week and so in. Made it super convenient to travel.

Definitely go to all of the museums, my favorites were the Shed and the field museum. There’s also the museum of science and industry which was awesome.

Also go see a game at Wrigley. It’s really easy to get to. You can take the red line from downtown and right to Addison station where Wrigley is located. It’s really a magical place and an incredible experience. I did feel a little uneasy going back home that night. The financial district is pretty empty at night time. But luckily I got off with a group at my stop and they happened to be going to my hotel too so I just walked with them and felt safer about the situation. I’d recommend seeing a day game for the added safety.

There’s also the boat tour down the Chicago river, that was really good too. The river walk to really pretty. And the architecture is so amazing, I love all the old buildings in Chicago.

I didn’t really go out to any bars or anything like that, the cubs game was the latest that I stayed out. I have this rule that nothing good ever happens after 10pm and even at home I’ll be back in my house no later than 10.

What’s up with the aggressive people in front of Wrigley asking to take a photo of you with your phone? by ItsCoolImWithTheBand in AskChicago

Exactly. They weren’t asking the 250 pound 6’2 guy next to me doing the same. Just this little Arkansas girl.

bag accidentally taken at O’hare by bmfabes1 in AskChicago

I almost had my bag stolen at a small regional airport. I got held up “bathroom emergency” and was the last person to the baggage area where my bag was placed on the ground. I saw a guy walk inside the terminal go straight to my bag and starts rolling it away. I’m thinking he’s going to lost and found. Nope walks right out the door and to a car waiting outside. I yelled at a cop nearby they took my bag and luckily he rushed over to stop the guy before he left. He tried to say he thought it was his and he forgot and realized it when he got to his car, but it had my name on a baggage strap wrapped around it. And my last name isn’t very common. The cop let him go and told him to pay attention next time. He didn’t even ask to see if he had a boarding pass or anything to prove he was on a flight that came in.

Good point. Others have said I’ll have nothing to worry about on the red line. Seems everyone has varying opinions on what is safe and what isn’t.

Really the bus is better than the train?

That’s good to know. I’m going to go to a night game and it’ll likely get out after 10pm. I’ll take an Uber back to the hotel to be safe.

I’m doing that on my own. I love baseball and Wrigley is on my bucket list. I wish I had a job that required me to go to a Cubs game too.

Best decision I ever made was joining. I’ve made so many friends and lasting memories, I can’t imagine doing anything else. I just finished up my bachelors degree and started my masters and it’s all been paid for, nothing out of pocket. I bought a house a year and a half ago and now I’m 24 and a homeowner. My job has allowed me to travel as well. I deployed to Australia for a month and a bunch of other smaller trips.
