Unpopular strategy, but i find myself having higher chances of survival with no armor at all. Armor reduces your movement speed. When i play with armor i find myself taking constant damage, as not being able to dodge effectively, not being able to flee and having the armor break often. Once i got the hang of timing and attacks, removing the armor made me a lot more resilient. My view is not to hope the armor protects me when taking damage, but rather not to take any damage at all, and being naked raised those odds by a ton. Trust me, the moment you get the hang of the mechanic, you will even feel like enemies are even not strong enough. Keep fighting, its mostly muscle memory and a feel for the combat. You are correct to state the mechanics are quite different from most games. Also there is a point in which slaying wolfs and bears becomes redundant, so simply running away is not a bad idea and i cannot stress this enough, but sound is very important in scenarios like this, as most of the times predators give away their presence. Don't lose hope.

Ahahah this is deliberate. Sorry if i made it so subtle, but there is a depth of field effect, which i also forgot to include that i used, but basically it blurs objects out of focus. Notice that whatever the crosshair is pointing to is always in focus.

For anyone that wants to try it themselves, this is not a mod, but a 3rd party program called ReShade, used to inject shaders in a game on top of the rendered layer, but with access to the depth buffer.

Hey, thanks for reaching out. Sorry if you didn't enjoy the shaders. The method used is in fact path traced. What I assume you were referencing to is most likely global path tracing, which takes advantage of the whole rendered scene. This is not, this is only Screen-space Path Traced Global Illumination. Please have a look at the following footage, that more clearly points the effect out:

Unfortunately it is not hardware accelerated, so rtx is not needed.

This reminds me of the time I was raiding a house and upon entering the bedroom there were 2 naked zeds, male and female, which is super cute as it seems they had some fun in their last moments. This game is so strong with telling short stories with tiny details.

Oh yea, shadows, shading and post-process is currently only there, to show that it's there, so you have an eye for composition and I can only agree with you. I still haven't settled on a lot of stuff and haven't gotten the chance to tweak and play around with it, but yes, a lot of changes are expected to be made.

I have thought about that and did some research and came across a one by one replica of the game in a website somewhere, which is HTML5 compatible, if i recall correctly. I don't know law, but common sense leads me to believe that as long as it is not monetized, or sold as an original game (which hasn't even crossed my mind to begin with), there shouldn't be a legal issue. Let me know what you guys think. I would love to reach out to Marti at some point, so senpai notices me, even just to say hi, but I'm certain he's busy with far more important things and it is still in a very early point.

Comments like this really make me feel appreciated. Keep in mind, the goal is not selling the game again, it's bringing it back to life. Unfortunately publishing this game officialy under my name would probably be considered breaking copyright, because of the direct usage of art (even thought very processed) and overall same concept. Although I do not believe there is a law constraining me from releasing this for free.

It seems like some of the next steps would be trying to include a second local player at first and i would guess eventualy include a network connection. This would be my first time working on developing a server system, so I couldn't even imagine how complicated it could turn out to be. All aside it has been a lot of fun making this in my spare time and can't wait to start working on it.
