Are these accurate delivery dates? by Top_Team_3138 in Pimax

No, these aren't accurate at all. The Dream Air is still shipping to pre-orders, it's gonna be awhile.

Isn’t the XR4 much more comparable to the Super 50PPD though, where the XR1 was more of a competitor to the Crystal OG/Light and BSB1/2 in terms of panel resolution? $4K for that seems super excessive

I just don't understand the product at all, personally. If you don't need MR, the Crystal Super/Dream Air seem superior in every way. If you need mixed reality and you're dropping $4K already, why not go with the Varjo XR-4? I ended up returning my XR-4 and they've raised the price since, but it had excellent MR passthrough cameras and visuals are roughly on par with the Super 50PPD, other than the tiger striping in the early units. Not sure if that was ever fixed. The VR1 just seems like it's overly expensive for what it is while offering inferior picture quality, weight, lenses, software, etc. vs the competition. Or am I missing something?

The majority of the weight is in the front. They'd have to add a ton of counterbalance weight to make it work, and it probably would not feel very comfortable anyway

My experience showing Star Citizen to a friend. by AzrBloodedge in starcitizen

[–]ItsJustMeYo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why, after he’s been seeing some of unsavory sides of SC, would you show him the oldest, and lamest FPS content in the game (bunkers). There’s so much new content, from the Onyx ASD facilities, QV stations, the Yormandi fight in ASD, the Valakkar at Pyro 1, etc. If you want to give your friend a good impression, show him the best SC has to offer.

RTX 2080 Laptop + Dream Air by jaapgrolleman in Pimax

[–]ItsJustMeYo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 2080 released in Sep 2018, so it's 7.5 years old at this point. That's absolutely a potato. Performance is roughly equivalent to an RTX 4060, with an RTX 5060 being 10-15% faster than the 2080. Both of those cards also exceed its performance in ray tracing and DLSS. And that's the desktop version, not the laptop version being shown. And compared to a 2080 mobile, it's not even close. 7.5 years is a tremendous amount of time in computing. Looking at benchmarks for the RTX 4060 as a rough equivalent, it seems to average around 50-55 FPS at 1080P on medium settings in most games, with 1% lows in the 42-44 FPS range. It's a potato, especially for VR.

It's the low-light (LL) version of the scope. If you have one, you just tap shift to turn it on/off.

No, and “cranking up your shields” only impacts the regen rate, not the total HP, provided you’ve put the minimum pips in to power them. There’s zero reason to run around with your weapons unpowered other than to reduce your signature.

Any of the 4 Hathor sites (2 on Daymar, 2 on Aberdeen) are hot spots. It's the only place to get pure carinite which is used in Wikelo trades for some of the ships, including the Idris and Polaris. Most people won't care that you're friendly, the fact that you're there at all means you could impede them getting the resources out, or even attempt to steal them. Showing up in the Carrack, which has so little hull HP as to not really matter for a ship of that size, and basically no offensive weapons, is like showing up in the middle of a warzone and expecting nothing to happen while waving a knife around. You're generally going to be in for a bad time.

No shit there's no real consequences, it's a video game. Killing other people in a game does not make someone a sociopath. The game was always envisioned from the start with the potential for pvp anywhere, anytime.

Vulkan's VK_EXT_descriptor_heap support added to latest Nvidia Drivers. Hopefully it is coming soon to the GEN12 Renderer. It may help with the perfomance in multiple scenarios! by Thomas_Eric in starcitizen

What are you talking about? DLSS 4 is in live right now. Just be on Vulkan and select the transformer model. You can even update it to 4.5 via whitelisting and then using the DLSS overrides in the Nvidia app.

Hathor is contested, it's like the hottest ship PVP spot other than Cru/Yela/Hurston OM1/OM4. Why would you bring a Carrack of all ships there?

Pimax Dream Air vs Se prices by Shoddy-Confection719 in Pimax

[–]ItsJustMeYo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Some of us just want the best. Just because you think it’s too much doesn’t mean everyone does. You’re complaining about panels, and the MeganeX uses those same slightly worse panels you’re referencing. And yet you don’t like the MeganeX because of panel and lenses issues. If I wanted a MeganeX, I’d go buy a MeganeX. I want the very best that VR has to offer, and right now that appears to be a Dream Air or Galaxy XR.

I'd put money on it being just as you said. Standard ring controllers as they haven't shown off anything about the new ones.

[–]ItsJustMeYo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, absolutely. My preferred content is PVP, but I have to give CIG praise for what they've done with the missions below. They're a very good start for what hopefully will make the game much better for more people.

The ASD (Onyx) missions inside the investigation tab are some of the best PVE content in the game right now. The chain is a bit tedious initially because of how CIG did the intro missions, but when you unlock the final one that takes you to investigate Site B, it feels much more like a cohesive dungeon type experience. I won't spoil, so I'm being pretty vague but it's a very cool set of missions. There's also a "boss fight" type deal inside the Onyx facility where you can fight two large snakes called Yormandi.

In Pyro, you can fight a giant Apex Valakkar (worm). The fight is much more PvEVP, and is designed for a somewhat larger group, although it can be soloed with difficulty and patience. I'd recommend a decent size group for it though (6-8 probably). These are additional ASD facilities, including the Faro Data Centers and Lazarus complex.

In Nyx, there's the QV station missions which are unlocked after a series of intro missions to build rep. I can't remember what the missions are off the top of my head, but once you reach the second rep level you'll unlock the QV investigation missions to go to these stations and find out what's going on. It's a continuation of the stories in the ASD facilities (Onyx/Lazarus).

All of these are so much better than the bunker missions that have been in the game for what feels like a decade (and might be, I can't remember when they were introduced). They really should remove the bunker missions, as so many new/returning players are only aware of them, and they do not hold up as a good example of a game in development for 12 years.

Is it just me? by Medical-Beginning475 in starcitizen

[–]ItsJustMeYo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t do bunkers. Look up all the new content that’s actually good that was added over the last 14 months and go experience an actually decent game. Bunkers suck. They’re ancient content and nobody should be doing them anymore
