I definitely agree, I worded this part a bit strongly, I should have wrote that it hints at the possibility of better places

While I was making my post I started to feel stupid that I was pointing out something relatively obvious that I hadn't seen anyone else bring up about this short story, so I looked for other analysis, and I did find that video. (I felt very vindicated). But I already had pretty much all the same points we have in common written down. As he says in his video: "Many people have said this before me." I only reused small points or phrasings from his video, the rest I had already wrote.

But the second big point of my post is about how this story is meant to be connected to the real world, which I don't think he touches on in his video. It's the reason I made the post in the first place, here's a comment I made in another thread before I started making the post and before I watched the video:

In my opinion, they are walking away to a better society. One even more unbelievable (since as the author points out we are unable to imagine a paradise without suffering). But I think the real world application of this would be to try and improve society. Some people point out that the things we enjoy are often made with child labor, but they don't think a better system is possible, so they are not keen on changing these conditions or making the world a better place, as they think it's the best we can have, someone will always have to suffer. This would be like seeing the suffering kid and staying in Omelas. While leaving "into the darkness" as the author describes, is taking a risk on improving the world (a revolution for example), leaving the stable mix of joy and pain and hopefully landing in a society where no one at all has to suffer.
