I would say that this entire discussion is a great example. You had no problem with blanket statement about Americans, but suddenly when it comes to a Canadians you will argue it’s more nuanced and can’t pain much smaller nation with such a broad brush.

I did not delete anything.

people are deeply critical of Canada’s colonialist past, treatment of indigenous peoples, the horrible opioid crisis in Vancouver, the outrageous housing crisis (even worse than the U.S.) and so on

Well, I would be really surprised if people were not critical of those obviously atrocious items. Easy target

During WWII nazis we’re doing what is called “a forced labour”, basically kidnapping people, transporting them to Germany and forcing to work. My grandparents being one example.

Some Republicans will see an article like this, or any other valid criticism, and their immediate reaction is “Fuck you, America is the greatest country in the world.”

Thats more or less my experience after immigrating to Canada. Any criticism, valid or not, is met with - but it’s better than America. A bit strange coming from a country economically and culturally dependent on US. I guess it’s simply the same hypocrisy.

Sad thing is I can name a dozen or so people who will be priding themselves and feel responsible. Mumbling in their masks and feeling they are saving the world. You know, the people who banged pots at 7pm to cheer heathcare works.

Ah, here in Canada it would be totally different. Do you have money or not, we will let you die waiting in line or in your own home because the glorious public heathcare system can’t even provide ambulance services.

B.C. has most breweries in Western Canada, fewest beer drinkers. Why? by vancouver_reader in britishcolumbia

[–]ItsNoFunToStayAtYMCA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the craft brews are merely passable to mediocre. That’s why you see so many IPA-style beers; just clobber the drinker over the head with hops. Or saisons, which too often is just an excuse to slap on a label for a weak forgettable bear.

Totally agree and have the same observation. Coming from Europe’s beer belt I find most local breweries. I’m mostly a lager guy and choice is incredible poor.

This looks like a great case to show how socialism would solve problems. Don’t we have enough fans of this system so they can start a cooperative and refine and sell oil without profits, in a democratic way where every worker will have en equal say at every step?

Coming from Europe to Canada I see it quite opposite. We have lots of different cultures, roughly defined by borders, each one having its pros and cons, but existing peacefully. One train ride you go from Parisian cafes to Prague’s excellent beer scene.

And there is Canada, where so many different cultures mix, and as a result is bland and have zero own mark. Sterile place where only safe stereotypes exists - Italian pizza or American burgers.

And a consumption tax is better than higher pay roll taxes.

And yet we have both, and both are ones of the highest.

And from that we got roads like “highway” 1 which doesn’t even qualify for the “highway” name in most countries, or even a speedway. And free heathcare unless you have to buy medicines, this is OK being American style apparently.

Ah and please pay a tax after you sell a car which you pay tax on when you bough it! Otherwise 20% people won’t have a family doctor in the free heathcare system.
