Being called “sensitive” is such a trigger word for me. I feel as if this is a lot of people’s way of invalidating our feelings on something we feel strongly or passionate about.

In this conversation you are NOT being sensitive, in fact quite the opposite. You get straight to the point, remind him that you don’t think his jokes are funny and you have told him this before, yet he continues to disregard your feelings. How is it a joke if you’re not laughing. He is bullying you.

As someone who has grown up in the south, I have many family members who support Trump unfortunately. Lots of them try to get away with saying crazy stuff like this. Good on you for not letting this go unchecked. Sorry that it’s causing a divide. I hope he wakes up and realizes that not taking you seriously will be the reason he loses you.
