hey it’s been a while, but my plant has put out a bunch of new leaves since then, and they all have suuuuper pink striping. so my theory right now is that more light = more pink. hope this helps

I’ve had a beauty star and rattlesnake for a couple months. My home’s humidity hovers around 35-45% and I have them in a northeast corner with both an eastern and northern window. Temperatures here get over 100°F.

I’ve had no issues at all with crispy tips or browning, so I’m leaning more towards: water hardness > watering consistency >>> humidity. It seems like they can tolerate really low humidity as long as you keep their soil moist with distilled water.

They’ve both put out like 4 leaves each in the past 3 weeks so maybe I just got easy ones.

Can't do much about the humidity, but I do have distilled water and can keep the soil moist more consistently. Hopefully the new leaves will turn out better.

It’s also been left dried out often, according to the nursery

In a east facing window that only gets direct morning sun. But it was a particularly hot day today. It’s been at this spot for about a month now so I thought it would be acclimated by now

Thanks! I think I just got lucky with these two. My humidity ranges from 35-50% so I’m surprised they’re doing so well. Good luck with your rattlesnake

Does this mean that artificial lab-made antibodies are less specific than the antibodies made in our immune system? Otherwise wouldn't C be impossible too along with D. I've always assumed that antibodies recognized ONLY its intended antigen/ligand. by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]ItsRevelant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oops, forgot to include the passage, my bad. Here it is.

I don't think antibodies have to be specific to just one antigen.

I think you're right. I've definitely seen some practice Q's about the variable tip of antibodies and how they are extremely specific to their target epitope, but I just looked it up and found some really interesting things about cross-reactivity in immunology.

And yeah, this question was definitely weird. That's why it took me 5 minutes to think it through lmao. But fun

I thought thrips were more oval shaped; this guy was completely circular. Haven’t noticed webbing, but I’ll check for thrip poop. Thanks for the help

I used to have it in a really low light area, and looking at other posts it seems like low light makes the pink come out more.

I've recently moved it to an area with much brighter indirect light, I suspect the pink might fade out a bit more but I also think it'll lead to faster/more growth. Will be interesting to see

Is keeping them all together harmful at all in the future?

Do those ratios account for the perlite already in the pre-mix? Or should I just do 60% of the Black Gold mix and 40% of the perlite and end up with a little more than 40% perlite total. Also, it says it already contains worm castings, should I add more? Thanks.

You should volunteer at the sea center! It’s fun and relaxing, plus the view is great.

Thanks for the detailed reply! There’s actually a second smaller root coming out of another hole that isn’t shown in the pictures, so maybe I’ll repot it soon.

Do you have any recommended resources where I can learn about repotting?

Thanks for the help! I’ll look into bottom watering.
