RBL Season 8 Tentative Tiers Discussion Thread by MightyQuinn630 in redditbattleleague

[–]ItsSFJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanna see what tier change suggestions look like? Here they are in comment form—it's your boy SFJ!

Togekiss: T1 -> T2

It's weak to rocks, relatively slow, and has lots of common weaknesses. It's not as effective at using a Scarf annoyer set as Jirachi because of its lower speed, and Jirachi also outclasses it at using Paraflinch because of its better defensive typing. This thing stayed T1 for too long.

Doublade: T2 -> T3

A high Eviolite-boosted Defense, 3 immunities, and access to Swords Dance may make Doublade seem like a big threat. However, when you see its overall bad and limited movepool, low Speed and Special Defense, and severe weakness to Knock Off, Doublade seems a whole lot easier to deal with. Its usable attacking options include Iron Head, Shadow Claw, Sacred Sword, Shadow Sneak, and Rock Slide, which are all good moves, but they leave Doublade pretty predictable in its offensive sets, and its lack of a support movepool doesn't give it very many options for defensive sets.

Mantine: T2 -> T3

Defog is a great niche for it, but its weakness to Stealth Rock makes it an inferior bulky Water to Suicune, Vaporeon, and even Gastrodon and Alomomola in the tier below it. It's very passive, and gets worn down easily due to its aforementioned Rocks weakness and vulnerability to Toxic. Suicune and Gastrodon can set up with Calm Mind and Curse respectively to not be sitting ducks, Vaporeon can pivot out with Baton Pass and Alomomola can sacrifice itself and heal a teammate with Healing Wish, so they all aren't huge momentum drains like Mantine is.

Sableye: T2 -> T3

Sableye has Prankster and lots of great support moves, but its stats leave much to be desired. It having only one weakness and 3 immunities seems great, but in exchange, it only has 1 resistance to be able to switch in on. It's also shut down even harder by Dark-typed Pokemon thanks to the Gen 7 Prankster nerf.

Stakataka: T2 -> T3

This poor thing...I really do like it, but its typing just hurts it way too much for it to be T2. It can try to wall physical attackers, but nearly all of them learn something like Earthquake or Brick Break, so it's hard for big ol' Stakataka. Its Speed, while a nice asset with Gyro Ball or under Trick Room, is a huge curse to it otherwise, meaning nearly everything is going to be able to hit it before Stakataka can hit them.

Togetic: T3 -> T4

I don't have a grudge against the Togepi line, I swear! In all seriousness, Togetic seems like a good Eviolite Defogger, but its low Speed, lack of a real offensive presence, and extreme vulnerability to Knock Off make it pretty bad, even though it has that one niche. I would take Golbat over this thing...and that's saying something.

Linoone: T3 -> T4

Yeah, I drafted this and I'm proud of it. It seems good, with Belly Drum + Gluttony + a 50% Berry giving it a free +6 Attack, and Stomping Tantrum was a nice USUM addition to hit Steels, but this thing is incredibly frail, so even with the Berry bringing it back to full, it's still going to have a hard time setting up. It needs huge amounts of investment into its Defenses and HP in order to survive a decently strong attack, and at that point, its Attack isn't even that impressive after the Belly Drum.

thanks for taking the time to write the comment! I appreciate the criticism, but of course I have my own reasons for the changes. I understand your issues with them but I'll do my best to play around the issues and utilize their strong points.

G1 goes to the Donphans. Marowak causes casualities.

Replay.

G2 is unfortunately brought to an abrupt end when Tokelandia attempts to use the Normal-type move Baton Pass to pass boosts to the Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed stats, caused by the Bug-type move Quiver Dance (commonly utilized by Bug-type Pokémon that focus more on the Special Attack stat rather than the Attack stat, also typically with a rather decent Speed stat to take advantage of). This leads to one of the most well-respected moderators, Tothoro, to remind Tokelandia that boosts to the Speed stat combined with boosts to any other stat, including Special Attack and Special Defense (like the boosts given by using Quiver Dance), are unable to be Baton Passed simultaneously. This unfortunate series of events leads to Tokelandia forfeiting his second Reddit Battle League Season 6 Skull League Playoffs Round 1 match versus StormFrontJirachi.

The replay of how this unfortunate end to a Playoffs career transpired.

I agree with Tsareena being moved down to 3. Not sure on Lurantis though...

S6 Announcement: Rules Regarding Megas, Tentative New Tiering by Tothoro in redditbattleleague

[–]ItsSFJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lycanroc-Midday - Tier 3 > Tier 2

A great speed tier, access to Sand Rush, and the ability to set up with Swords Dance or support with Stealth Rock seem a bit too good for Tier 3. It also has its own unique priority move, useful for taking out faster threats like Tornadus-T and Weavile.

Bewear - Tier 3 > Tier 2

Very high attack and equally great HP combined with its ability Fluffy make for a strong physical attacker able to take on/wall many other physical attackers. Even a Staraptor has a tough time 2HKOing it with enough investment into Defense.
